Overview
Maydm is a 501c(3) nonprofit that provides girls and youth of color in grades 6‑12 with the skills, experiences, and connections to pursue careers in and change the face of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math). We envision a world where all students know that a career in STEM is possible for them and can pursue their dreams as entrepreneurs, developers, engineers, or professors.
Schedule & Eligibility
Anticipated Start Date: May 26, 2026
Anticipated End Date: August 31, 2026
Hours per week: Minimum 25, Maximum 30
Working hours are generally Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–4:30 pm. The role is primarily in-person with hybrid availability. Interns must be available for mandatory multi‑day in‑person training from May 26–June 2.
Qualifications
Work‑study eligibility through the University of Wisconsin–Madison is required.
Must pass a background check.
Prior experience in social media management, content creation, or marketing (professional, academic, or volunteer).
Experience with nonprofit or community organizations is a plus.
Experience working with diverse middle‑ and high‑school‑aged youth.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Technical Skills
Proficient in Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok.
Experience with Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
Basic photography, video capture, editing, and production.
Comfortable using analytics tools such as Google Analytics or Meta Insights.
Familiarity with email marketing platforms such as Mailchimp.
Communication
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Adapt tone and voice across platforms.
Draft, edit, proofread social media posts, blogs, and marketing copy.
Storytelling ability focused on mission‑driven narratives.
Experience in media outreach or public relations is a plus.
Creativity & Organization
Creative thinker and generate fresh campaign ideas.
Manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Strong attention to detail.
Comfortable taking and incorporating constructive feedback.
Experience or knowledge of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles; willingness to complete DEI training (provided).
Teamwork oriented, capable of independent decision making.
Enthusiastic about Maydm's mission to advance diversity and inclusion in STEM.
Reliable transportation to Maydm Office and Madison College Truax Campus.
Position Summary/Job Duties
Create, schedule, and post engaging digital content across all social media platforms.
Develop and maintain a consistent brand voice and presence.
Write, edit, and proofread copy for social media posts, newsletters, and marketing materials.
Brainstorm and pitch new content ideas aligned with the mission and campaigns.
Capture and edit photographs and video footage at events and programs.
Explore and implement new initiatives to drive interactivity and online engagement.
Maintain organized records of content calendars, campaign materials, and project timelines.
Uphold values and mission in all communications and public‑facing content.
Log hours accurately into timesheet.
Physical Demands
Ability to be on feet for 6–7 hours and interact with middle‑ and high‑school students.
