Elevance Health, Chicago, IL, United States
Pharmacy Account Director
We are looking for a Pharmacy Account Director to develop and maintain relationships with external clients and prospects, and reach internal health plan penetration goals through the use of strong consultative skills.
As a Pharmacy Account Director in the pharmacy benefits space, you will play a key role in helping self‑funded employers optimize their pharmacy strategies, control rising drug costs, and improve member outcomes. Your impact will be measured by your ability to combine deep PBM expertise with strong client leadership and consultative insight.
How You Will Make an Impact
Manage and grow strategic employer relationships: Serve as the primary point of contact for large, self‑funded employer clients, building trusted partnerships with executive stakeholders while driving retention and long‑term growth.
Translate complex PBM strategies into business value: Simplify and communicate key drivers of pharmacy spend—formulary design, rebates, specialty management, and utilization controls—into clear financial and clinical outcomes for clients.
Support and lead components of renewals and contract strategy: Guide clients through renewals, pricing negotiations, and performance guarantees, ensuring competitive positioning and measurable value delivery.
Partner effectively with brokers and consultants: Navigate consultant‑driven environments by building strong relationships with firms, contributing to strategy and supporting successful outcomes in RFPs and ongoing account management.
Support cost management and trend improvement: Proactively identify opportunities to reduce pharmacy spend and improve performance, leveraging PBM tools and insights (e.g., formulary optimization, specialty drug management, rebate strategies).
Deliver a strategic, consultative client experience: Stay informed on market trends (e.g., specialty growth, GLP‑1s, biosimilars) and bring forward‑thinking recommendations that align with employer priorities and evolving benefit strategies.
Moderate client‑facing travel will be necessary (e.g., attending meetings, strategy sessions, and events).
Minimum Requirements
Requires a BA/BS and a minimum of 5 years of related experience; or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in pharmacy benefit management (PBM), especially in account management or sales.
Familiarity with the broader employee benefits landscape (health plans, brokers, consultants, or specialty pharmacy).
Strong client‑facing and strategic account management skills.
Experience with CRM tools, particularly Salesforce.
Ability to navigate complex internal and external relationships effectively.
General data analysis and digital fluency skills.
Ability to influence and collaborate in a highly matrixed environment.
A Pharmacy License or equivalent service in the specialty Rx arena.
