
Commercial Real Estate Staff Attorney

Position Overview
A premier, high–caliber law firm is seeking a Commercial Real Estate Staff Attorney to support its sophisticated real estate practice across the Mid-Atlantic region. This role is ideal for an experienced attorney who enjoys high-level transactional work in a collaborative environment, without the business development pressures of a partnership-track position.
The Staff Attorney will work closely with partners and associates on a wide range of complex commercial real estate transactions , representing institutional clients, developers, lenders, and investors.
Responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial real estate documents , including:
- Purchase and sale agreements
- Commercial leases (office, retail, industrial)
- Loan documents and financing agreements
- Easements, declarations, and development agreementsConduct and manage title and survey review , including:
- Identifying and resolving title objections
- Reviewing ALTA surveys
- Coordinating with title companies
- Support acquisitions, dispositions, and financing transactions from diligence through closing
- Zoning and land use analysis
- Review of organizational documents, service contracts, and property-level agreements
- Coordinate and manage closings , including preparation of closing checklists and deliverables
- Interface with clients, lenders, opposing counsel, and third-party service providers
- Assist with post-closing matters and file organization
- Collaborate with internal teams across corporate, tax, and finance practices as needed
Qualifications
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar admission in at least one of the following: DC, Maryland, or Virginia (or ability to waive in)
- 4–9+ years of commercial real estate transactional experience, preferably at a law firm
- Strong experience with leasing, acquisitions/dispositions, and/or real estate finance
- Proficiency in title and survey review
- Excellent drafting, organizational, and analytical skills
- Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience representing institutional clients, REITs, developers, or lenders
- Familiarity with multi-state transactions
