Senior Director, Privacy & Data Protection

Secure and advance Intuitive’s privacy and data protection strategy across all business functions.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel managers, contributors, business units, and executives on privacy & data protection matters.
  • Actively identify opportunities to enhance our privacy program and ensure personal information is protected with appropriate legal and risk frameworks.
  • Identify and advise on privacy and data protection risks and opportunities that impact business goals.
  • Advising on the value of data assets for licensing or purchase.
  • Advise executives on privacy & data protection laws, emerging areas such as A.I. and related legal requirements.
  • Analyze emerging laws and lead readiness and implementation for new regulations.
  • Lead enforcement activity responses that may impact the company.
  • Support privacy & data breach investigations, remediation and regulator inquiries.
  • Draft and negotiate agreements covering research data use, data licensing, data sharing, M&A and other commercial matters.
  • Manage, mentor, and train less senior legal team members; set goals and provide career development.
  • Participate in and lead cross‑functional projects and initiatives with the Legal Team.
  • Identify strategic opportunities to improve the effectiveness of the company’s data protection posture.
  • Allocate and deploy legal resources to advance Intuitive’s interests cost‑effectively and timely.

Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor.
  • Membership in at least one U.S. Bar.
  • At least one IAPP certification.
  • Minimum 13 years of global data privacy legal and compliance experience.
  • Experience working with non‑U.S. counsel in various foreign jurisdictions.
  • Preferred qualifications:
    • Eligibility for California State Bar membership or in‑house counsel registration.
    • Proven experience managing privacy risks across multiple jurisdictions.
    • Healthcare industry experience in patient care, life sciences, research, or medical devices.
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
    • Strong contract drafting and negotiation experience, including business associate agreements and data protection agreements.
    • Ability to assess, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks under changing conditions.
    • Ability to independently plan, execute complex, high‑level assignments.
    • Superior legal judgment and analytical skills for resolving competing priorities.
    • Management skill to guide work of others for timely high‑quality deliverables.

Additional Requirements

Must be able to provide current proof of vaccination against certain diseases, including COVID‑19.

Compensation

Base compensation range: $265,300 USD – $397,900 USD in Region 1. (Onsite, Day shift)
