
Tax Managing Director, Alternative Investments

This role in our Alternative Investments practice assists in providing tax compliance & consulting services to our Venture Capital, Private Equity, Hedge Fund, and Real Estate clients.
Responsibilities
- Ensures both that clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens, and that self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (“TQM”).
- Applies understanding of client’s unique circumstances, documentation, and other requirements mandated by law and prepares required filings using a system of review and documentation to ensure full compliance while keeping the burden as low as possible.
- Ensures all data needed to comply with filing requirements are collected; identifies and communicates missing items.
- Utilizes Firm compliance software to maximize efficiency in tax preparation process.
- Collaborates effectively with Principals, Senior Managers, Managers, Tax Seniors, and Associates on project completion, following up on the Open items list.
- Delivers high-quality federal, state, and international tax compliance services.
- Leads complex engagements with a team of tax professionals.
- Manages the engagement, including billing, collections, and project budget.
- Builds and manages client relationships; assists in developing new clients and opportunities.
- Documents client work and conclusions in the client tax file.
- Identifies, develops, recommends, and implements efficient and effective tax strategies.
- Manages teams of Senior Managers, Managers, Tax Seniors, and Associates.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics (required).
- Master’s Degree in Accounting or Taxation (preferred).
- Ten (10) or more years of relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience (required).
- Financial Services industry experience supporting Alternative Investment funds including Venture Capital, Private Equity, Real Estate, and Hedge Funds (preferred).
- Proficiency in the taxation of partnerships (preferred).
- CPA, Licensed Attorney, or IRS Enrolled Agent (required).
- CFP or Masters in Tax (preferred).
- Experience with Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook) and Adobe Acrobat (preferred).
- Experience with tax research databases (preferred).
- Proficient in tax compliance process software (preferred).
- Superior verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively delegate work.
- Strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills and decision-making skills.
- Capacity to work well in a team environment.
- Capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals.
- Ability to compose written tax advice.
- Capable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationships.
- Executive presence and ability to act as primary client contact for preparation and presentation of issues and resolutions.
Compensation Range
- California: $190,000 - $335,000
- Colorado: $170,000 - $225,000
- Illinois: $175,000 - $250,000
- Maryland: $185,000 - $260,000
- Massachusetts: $215,000 - $300,000
- Minnesota: $170,000 - $250,000
- New Jersey: $190,000 - $350,000
- NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $230,000 - $350,000
- Washington: $180,000 - $240,000
- Washington DC: $190,000 - $300,000
