The Kiona Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization committed to transforming the future of healthcare by researching novel, plant-based treatment options and supporting families navigating the challenges of cancer. Named in honor of a beloved child lost to brain cancer, our work is rooted in compassion, advocacy, and innovation. We support pioneering clinical research, offer educational programs on natural health and the endocannabinoid system, and provide vital resources to families facing housing insecurity during medical treatment. Volunteers are the heartbeat of our mission, helping us bring hope, healing, and change to those who need it most.
Overview The Grant Writer / Researcher plays a vital role in supporting the mission of the Kiona Foundation. This volunteer position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking work in pediatric cancer research, family support, and community engagement. Volunteers in this role will work closely with a passionate and committed team to advance the Foundation’s strategic priorities.
Time Commitment Expected commitment is flexible, with flexibility based on availability and project needs. This is a remote volunteer position unless otherwise specified.
Key Responsibilities Identify federal, state, private, and corporate grant opportunities aligned with the Foundation’s mission (e.g., NIH, AWS, Cabrini Foundation).
Write compelling letters of inquiry, full proposals, and supporting materials using Kiona Foundation's IRB data, research summaries, and strategic plans.
Maintain a grants calendar and track submission deadlines, renewals, and reporting requirements.
Work with the Research and Executive teams to gather metrics, case studies, and financial documents.
Desired Skills & Qualifications Ideal candidates will be self‑motivated, mission‑aligned, and capable of working independently in a collaborative, virtual environment.
