About the Team
The Science, Technology, and Medical Journals (STMJ) team at Elsevier is dedicated to making our journals a premier destination for authors. We collaborate with researchers to facilitate the publication of their impactful scientific discoveries, with a focus on rigorous peer review, ethics, and research integrity. In support of our portfolio of near 3000 hybrid and open access journals, you will actively contribute to advancing science and improving health outcomes.
The Health and Medical Sciences (HMS) portfolio includes more than 1000 journals across various medical specialties. We support and collaborate with editors, authors, reviewers and researchers worldwide, and many high‑profile journals that are owned by medical societies and associations.
About the Role
In HMS Group 6 (HMS6), we are looking for a bright and enthusiastic Executive Publisher to oversee a list of international proprietary and society journals and to drive expansion of our networks, partnerships, and market share in line with the STM Journals strategy and objectives. HMS6 manages journals in areas such as cardiology, nephrology, and pathology.
The Executive Publisher has an ambassadorial role to work effectively with multiple stakeholders within the Elsevier organization, such as Operations, Global Sales, Corporate Markets, Commercial Sales, and Clinical Solutions. The Executive Publisher also participates in STMJ projects.
To excel in this position, you must understand the importance of maintaining a strong network with and beyond current Elsevier editors, authors, and societies. You should balance academic research knowledge with a keen interest in new developments and exhibit strong relationship‑management skills. Working across teams with STMJ Centers of Expertise as needed is also essential.
Responsibilities
Stay up to date with market developments to identify and map market needs and business opportunities.
Combine market knowledge and data analysis to develop a portfolio strategy that delivers on STMJ targets and keeps the portfolio fully competitive; experience in data gathering, presentation, and interpretation is essential.
Manage content growth organically and through title acquisition, and innovate content formats, extensions, and channels.
Negotiate and manage contractual relationships with journal editors.
Manage the editorial fees budget and provide input to pricing processes.
Maintain close contact with editors and editorial boards within the portfolio, and engage with stakeholders across research communities, including research institutes, societies, and funding bodies.
Participate in inter‑STMJ projects and contribute to Elsevier projects that require STMJ representation, such as pilots for new products, services or business models.
