American Society of Interior Designers is hiring: Motion Designer in Durham
American Society of Interior Designers, Durham, NC, United States
Job Overview
12–18 month contract, with strong potential for contract‑to‑hire. The Worldwide Brand organization is seeking a Motion Designer to bring the brand to life through movement. This role focuses on executing high‑quality motion design across brand and marketing touchpoints while learning and applying established motion principles and systems. The ideal candidate will help stand up a repeatable, scalable motion graphic strategy. This role sits at the intersection of brand, motion, and emerging AI‑driven workflows, and will play a key role in shaping how the brand shows up everywhere—from subtle motion in emails to external communications and major launch moments. This is an individual contributor role centered on strong craft, reliable execution, and collaboration. You’ll work closely with Brand Designers and Creative Leadership to ensure motion is thoughtful, consistent, and aligned to the brand—leveraging modern creative tools, including AI, to enhance efficiency and exploration.
What you’ll do
Design and produce motion assets across brand and marketing channels (campaigns, social, launches, events, brand storytelling)
Translate static brand designs into clear, expressive motion
Apply existing motion principles, patterns, and guidelines consistently
Collaborate early with Brand Designers to plan motion needs
Create and adapt motion assets for different formats and platforms
Incorporate feedback efficiently and iterate on work
Use creative AI tools to accelerate ideation, streamline production workflows, and explore motion concepts responsibly
Ensure motion work meets brand, quality, and accessibility standards
Shape the brand’s motion language and help define how the future brand looks and feels through movement
Create motion assets across a wide range of channels, including:
External communications
Email and subtle digital touchpoints
Social and brand moments with the same consistency and impact as flagship assets
Develop plug‑and‑play motion components (e.g., gradients, transitions, system‑based elements) reusable across teams
Translate static brand elements—iconography, illustration, color, and gradients—into motion
Help establish and evolve motion guidelines, including parameters for consistent usage
Contribute to building a long‑term motion strategy, not just one‑off assets
Leverage AI tools (e.g., Runway, Shutterstock) responsibly and creatively within brand systems
Collaborate cross‑functionally with brand, content, and creative partners
Partner with global teams, including opportunities to collaborate with colleagues in China during major initiatives or launches
What you’ll own
Execution and quality of assigned motion work
Timely delivery of production‑ready motion assets
Consistent application of brand motion guidelines
Responsible and effective use of AI tools within established brand standards
Skills

Qualifications
3–5 years of experience in motion design, ideally within an in‑house, brand, or product‑focused team

Working knowledge of creative AI tools (e.g., generative visual tools, AI‑assisted animation workflows, concept generation tools) and ability to apply them thoughtfully
Ability to manage multiple projects and incorporate feedback effectively
Portfolio demonstrating brand‑driven motion work and strong craft fundamentals
What We’re Looking For
A portfolio showing range and scale with strong corporate/brand work and something truly creative, cool, or unexpected
Experience designing motion that lives across multiple touchpoints (not just social or video)
