The Tickle College of Engineering (TCE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville is seeking an innovative and visionary leader to serve as the Director of the Jerry E. Stoneking engage| Engineering Fundamentals (EF) Program. This non‑tenure‑track Teaching Associate/Full Professor position focuses on preparing the next generation of engineering professionals through transformative and future‑focused education. The Director will provide strategic and operational leadership for all aspects of the EF program, including overseeing day‑to‑day operations, supervising faculty, coordinating instructional activities, and driving enhanced pedagogical initiatives to ensure the program remains aligned with TCE’s educational strategic plan.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading the modernization of the EF curriculum and embedding emerging technologies such as AI, computational thinking, data analytics, and interdisciplinary problem‑solving.
- Promoting active learning, project‑based learning, and experiential approaches that deepen conceptual understanding and foster student engagement.
- Supporting faculty in adopting evidence‑based instructional methods such as flipped classrooms, collaborative learning structures, and inquiry‑driven activities.
- Advocating for initiatives that enhance first‑year engineering and champion continuous improvement grounded in assessment and accreditation standards.
- Collaborating with TCE departments to ensure smooth transitions for EF students entering majors and leading EF participation in outreach activities.
Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in engineering, engineering education, or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of undergraduate teaching experience.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Experience managing academic programs.
- Dedication to first‑year student success, retention, and belonging.
- Ability to inspire faculty and staff through collaborative leadership.
- Familiarity with accreditation processes, especially ABET.
- Experience supervising or mentoring faculty.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and curriculum development.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
- Evidence of innovation in engineering education and pedagogical transformation.
