
Senior Tax Manager

The Senior Manager of Tax will partner closely with the organization’s tax leadership to oversee all aspects of sales and use tax, GST, property tax, and other transactional tax areas. This role is responsible for compliance, audit management, process optimization, and accurate reporting across all indirect tax functions. The Senior Manager will supervise team members, review filings, support strategic tax initiatives, and contribute to system enhancements related to transactional taxes. Experience with Vertex and/or Avalara is required.
- Lead all tax compliance activities, including sales and use tax, GST, property tax, and other transactional taxes, ensuring timely filings, payments, and reconciliations.
- Manage and develop tax staff by providing coaching, workflow oversight, training, and performance evaluations.
- Oversee tax automation tools, including system configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting within tax engine platforms.
- Direct processes for collecting, validating, and maintaining resale and exemption certificates, including control implementation and renewal tracking.
- Manage audits conducted by state and local taxing authorities, including data preparation, correspondence, and resolution of assessments.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting indirect taxes and implement necessary operational adjustments.
- Evaluate contracts, product taxability, and business activities to confirm accurate tax treatment and mitigate exposure.
- Identify and drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and efficiencies within the indirect tax function.
- Provide tax guidance to business partners on operational changes, system updates, customer or vendor issues, and emerging business initiatives.
- Support M&A activity, including indirect tax due diligence, nexus evaluations, and integration of newly acquired entities into tax systems.
- Review property tax filings and assessments and coordinate appeal processes when appropriate.
- Prepare and review technical research, tax memoranda, and supporting documentation for compliance positions.
- Assist tax leadership with state-related aspects of the income tax provision, including apportionment and uncertain tax positions (FIN 48).
- Participate in additional departmental projects as needed.
Reporting Relationships
- Reports directly to the Director of Tax, with the ability to operate independently and with minimal supervision.
- Works closely with senior leadership, external advisors, customers, and representatives from various tax jurisdictions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in an indirect tax role
- Prior experience at the manager level in public accounting and/or a comparable corporate tax environment
- Hands‑on experience with indirect tax automation systems (Vertex and/or Avalara)
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA certification
- Master’s degree in Taxation
- Experience with SAP, OneStream, or OneSource Tax Provision
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods.
- Ability to be onsite during regular business hours, as designated for the position.
