Tax Director

We are working with a New York–based private investment firm managing approximately $3 billion in assets, focused on long-term investments. The Single Family Office supports the principals and related entities with comprehensive tax, estate, and philanthropic oversight.

The Tax Director will serve as the senior tax leader for the Family Office, overseeing all tax matters across a complex structure of partnerships, trusts, operating entities, gift vehicles, and a private foundation. The role is approximately 60% compliance oversight and 40% strategic planning . All tax preparation is outsourced to a Big Four firm; this individual will lead review, coordination, and strategic direction.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all outsourced tax compliance, including federal, state, and local filings.
  • Review partnership returns (Forms 1065) and K‑1 reporting with significant flow‑through impact to UHNW individual returns (Form 1040).
  • Oversee fiduciary returns (Forms 1041), gift tax filings (Form 709), and private foundation reporting (Form 990‑PF).
  • Manage quarterly estimates, withholding, and tax projections.
  • Ensure consistency and accuracy across partnerships, trusts, and individual filings.
  • Lead tax planning related to investment structuring, transactions, liquidity events, and multi‑state considerations.
  • Partner with estate planning advisors on trusts, GRATs, and gifting strategies.
  • Advise on philanthropic and foundation‑related tax matters.
  • Serve as the internal tax expert to principals and senior leadership, translating complex technical issues into practical guidance.

Qualifications

  • CPA preferred
  • 12+ years of tax experience in public accounting, family office, private equity, or investment management.
  • Deep expertise in partnership taxation and flow‑through structures.
  • Strong experience with ultra‑high‑net‑worth individual, trust, estate, gift, and private foundation taxation.
  • Experience managing and reviewing outsourced tax providers (Big Four preferred).
  • High discretion, strong technical skills, and ability to operate in a confidential, high‑trust environment.
