Tax Manager or Director - Private Client Services
We are seeking an experienced
Tax Manager or Director
to join our team. This role will focus on managing complex tax engagements for professional services clients, as well as high net worth individuals, families, and related entities.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical tax expertise, exceptional client service skills, and direct experience advising clients, particularly those with complex compensation structures, practice ownership interests, K‑1 income, and multi‑entity planning considerations.
Key Responsibilities
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients.
Provide proactive tax planning and advisory support tailored to:
S‑Corp
High Net Worth
Partnerships and pass‑through entity owners
Build and maintain strong client relationships, ensuring a high level of service and responsiveness.
Identify tax‑saving opportunities and strategic planning initiatives across clients’ personal and business interests.
Tax Compliance & Technical Expertise
Review complex federal, state, and local tax returns, including:
1040 (individual)
1041 (trusts and estates)
1065 and 1120‑S (practice partnerships and S corporations)
709 (gift tax)
Related entities such as management companies, holding companies, and investment partnerships
Experience with foreign related tax returns
Advise on matters relevant to clients, such as multi‑state income issues, buy‑in/buy‑out structures, K‑1 allocation issues, entity structuring and conversion strategies.
Conduct tax research and prepare technical memoranda on complex issues.
Manage, coach, and mentor staff and seniors on professional services client work.
Review workpapers, tax returns, and tax planning deliverables.
Promote technical development and knowledge sharing within the team.
Project & Engagement Management
Lead multiple engagements simultaneously, ensuring timely and accurate deliverables.
Manage engagement budgets, billing, and client expectations.
Coordinate with attorneys, wealth advisors, medical practice consultants, and other third‑party professionals as needed.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college/university required.
MST, JD, or LLM in Taxation a plus.
Active CPA license or EA certification required.
7+ years of progressive tax experience in public accounting required. Strong technical knowledge of individual, partnership, S‑corporation, trusts, gift taxation and investment partnerships.
Proficient with MS Office Suite and tax research platforms (e.g., CCH, BNA, RIA).
Knowledge of CCH Axcess preferred.
Experience with multi‑entity and multi‑state taxation issues.
Proven leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and mentor team members.
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with executive presence.
Performing, documenting, summarizing, and reviewing research conclusions regarding specific tax issues.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and contribute to firm growth.
Actual compensation will be dependent upon the specific role, office location as well as the individual’s qualifications, experience, skills, and certifications.
