Independent Living Skills Trainer (Waco, TX)
Coordinates and provides services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, Autism, and consumers with dual diagnosis who live in nursing facilities within the 6‑county area. Duties include but are not limited to making materials (or requesting materials in a timely manner) to teach skills associated with community living, social skills, recreational skills and functional skills. There may be times that the trainer will teach behavior skills on a case‑by‑case basis. Duties also include taking data during training sessions in order to complete SmartCare notes with accuracy about what happened during the session. Attendance at quarterly meetings at the request of the ILS Supervisor and/or BCBA is required. Providing updates, when requested, to the individual’s PASSR Habilitation Coordinator.
Example of Work Performed
Facilitates and provides skills training utilizing visual supports
Monitors, documents, and maintains records of consumer activities and progress.
Communicates information about consumer progress to treatment team and participates in interdisciplinary team planning to assist with treatment plan formulation and implementation.
Complies with all safety and health requirements and regulations in accordance with all applicable standards.
Performs duties in a manner consistent with the Agency’s mission.
Performs related work as assigned
Experience and Education A High School Diploma or GED is required. At least 1 year related experience in the field of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities is preferred with preference given to those who have worked with individuals who have challenging behaviors. Travel is required; therefore, a valid driver’s license and insurance are required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The person must have interpersonal, organizational and problem‑solving skills, and be a team player with a desire to provide a high level of service.
The person in this position must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, learn quickly, and interact effectively at all levels within the organization.
General working knowledge of basic behavior principles is preferred but not required.
Must maintain certification in CPR, First Aid and PMAB.
Must have and maintain a level of general health that permits the performance of job duties and possess the physical stamina to lift up to 30 pounds.
Must be able to go down onto both knees, one knee at a time, and be able to draw oneself up from the floor.
Must be able to assist consumers to floor in a safe manner as well as assist back to upright position. Must be free of communicable disease to report to work.
Exhibits appropriate work behaviors by working harmoniously with others, and without endangering the safety of self or others.

Mon‑Fri 8am‑6pm Flex depending on client needs
Salary:
$12.50 Hourly $26,000.00 Annually
