General Summary (What Is Done And Why)
The Mortgage Lending Assistant (MLA) position supports top producing Mortgage Advisers (MA). The MLA works closely with the Mortgage Advisor(s) on prospective and current clients, being able to handle most questions and inquiries when the Mortgage Advisor is unavailable. The MLA should also be assisting in contacting clients and prospective clients regarding basic mortgage terms and assisting the Mortgage Advisor by keeping abreast of their files with the respective loan processors, as well as having a thorough understanding of all due diligence and documentation.
Essential Functions, in Priority Order
Assisting MA with inputting new mortgage applications, quoting/locking rates, gathering and uploading borrower documents, pulling credit, sending disclosures, and making file updates within systems. (Time: 50%)
Monitor and manage sales pipeline consisting of mortgage applications taken but not yet closed; follow-up with mortgage operations personnel as necessary to obtain loan status and outstanding conditions; assist with clearing of underwriting conditions as necessary; re-structure loan terms and programs as necessary; monitor interest rate lock periods to ensure that locked rates are not allowed to expire; verify closing figures with operations personnel prior to loan closing. (Time: 20%)
Develop and maintain relationships with the escrow/title community to facilitate loan programs and stay abreast of opportunities and efficiencies. Represent the Credit Union at community real estate functions. (Time: 20%)
Answer phone calls, take messages, quote rates and respond to borrower/realtor inquiries. (Time: 10%)
Education
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience In Addition To The Education Requirement
At least one year of mortgage lending experience, preferably as a loan processor.
NMLS registration required upon hire.
Experience working in Encompass desired.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
General knowledge of the real estate lending industry.
Demonstrated mortgage origination or processing experience.
Excellent communication skills.
Knowledge of real estate laws, regulations, policies, and compliance.
Ability to work in a high-volume environment and anticipate loan file needs/issues.
Strong mathematical skills and ability to perform complex financial calculations with a financial calculator.
Strong proficiency with sales systems, including CRM, Origination Software, and other common Microsoft office applications. Specific knowledge or ability with Ellie Mae Encompass origination software preferred.

Physical Demands Work involves standing and walking for brief periods of time, but most work is done from a seated position. There is potential for eyestrain from reading detailed reports and computer screens. Deadlines, workloads, and pressure to achieve goals may cause increased stress levels.
Working Conditions Internal – Work is normally performed in climate-controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes and gases is very limited. The noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (computers, telephones, etc.). No known environmental hazards are encountered in normal performance of duties. The length of the day is unpredictable; long hours may be required to accommodate deadlines or special meetings.
External – Some overnight travel may be required; however, information on environmental conditions is not available.
