Salary:

$1,000 per semester (based on the student pay period schedule)

Required Qualifications:

Full‑time student in good standing with the university.

Maintains a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 for undergraduates or 3.0 for graduate students during the preceding long semester.

Undergraduate or graduate student who has lived on campus at Sul Ross State University for at least one semester; transfer students must have lived on campus at their previous institution for at least one semester.

Experience in planning and knowledge of campus resources.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with any of the primary responsibilities listed below.

Primary Responsibilities:

Work with the Assistant Director for Residential Living to complete delegated tasks and propose projects that enhance the residence hall community.

Serve as a communication link between residents and staff, informing the Assistant Director of any events or conditions that could affect a resident, floor, hall, or the university.

Establish effective working relationships with other university personnel and other residential staff.

Know residents in the assigned area, be aware of their needs, and assist them daily to aid their adjustment to Sul Ross State University.

Act as a resource by referring students to appropriate personnel and facilitating positive interaction and respect among residents.

Maintain a comfortable, safe, and non‑threatening atmosphere in the living spaces.

Participate in weekly staff meetings (2 hours) and complete required on‑call rotations during evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Work approximately 5 hours weekly at the front desk of the Office of Residential Living and attend fall and spring training sessions before the halls open.

Maintain full‑time student status (at least 12 hours for undergraduates or 9 hours for graduate students) and align RA responsibilities above all other employment commitments.

Maintain confidentiality in peer counseling and provide accurate information while respecting the confidentiality of the role.

Assist in routine maintenance tasks such as inspecting public areas, completing Unit Condition Reports, and reporting maintenance issues or damage to the Assistant Director.

Act as a positive role model, refraining from gossip, negative comments, and unethical behavior.

Additional General Expectations:

RAs are allowed to hold other employment positions on‑ or off‑campus for up to 10 hours per week with written approval from the Assistant Director.

RAs must maintain a 40% discount on their meal plan of choice and receive on‑campus housing.
