Summer Theater Director for Elyria Catholic High School Position Summary
The Music Director is responsible for the vocal and musical preparation of the summer theatrical production. This role provides leadership in teaching, rehearsing, and refining all musical elements to ensure a high-quality performance. The Music Director supports all participants, including students, alumni, faculty, staff, and volunteers, by fostering confidence, promoting vocal health, and maintaining strong musical standards within a safe, respectful, and mission-aligned environment. Major Responsibilities
Teach all vocal music to cast members, ensuring accuracy in pitch, rhythm, diction, and expression Plan and conduct full-cast vocal rehearsals and sectional practices to support efficient learning Work with soloists and ensemble members to develop vocal technique, musicality, and performance quality Provide individualized feedback and coaching to support growth across varying ability levels Establish and reinforce proper vocal warm-up routines and promote vocal health practices Utilize licensed rehearsal tracks to prepare cast members for performance tracks Coordinate timing and integration of music with staging, choreography, and technical elements Collaborate with the Director and production team to ensure alignment of artistic vision Support rehearsals by reinforcing expectations for preparedness, focus, and professionalism Operate and manage music tracks during rehearsals and performances Assist with troubleshooting musical or technical challenges related to sound and performance Support overall production needs, including rehearsals, performances, and strike as needed Qualifications
Virtus trained (or willingness to complete prior to rehearsals) Strong background in vocal music, music education, or related field Ability to work effectively with participants of varying skill levels Strong organizational, communication, and instructional skills Demonstrated leadership, patience, and ability to build confidence in performers Ability to collaborate effectively with the Director and production team Commitment to the mission, teachings, and traditions of the Catholic Church and to Catholic education Ability to pass FBI/BCI background check To Apply
