Equitable is looking for a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our organization as the Controls Testing Director in the Financial Controls Office (FCO). In this role you will be responsible for the planning, execution, and reporting of Management’s Internal Controls over Financial Reporting (ICFR) Testing program to ensure its effectiveness, efficiency, and alignment with industry best practices and regulatory standards. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams across key IT and Business areas and drive organizational change to achieve a streamlined and sustainable control environment.

What You’ll Be Doing

Drive Management’s ICFR Testing strategy across the Company’s key business and IT processes

Lead the planning and execution of Management testing program activities including SOX and MAR scoping, end‑to‑end process and control walkthroughs, documentation management, and issue escalation

Partner closely with external auditors to facilitate their 70% reliance on Management’s testing

Lead the identification and implementation of process improvements to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of internal control testing

Manage and communicate program status to Senior Management and external auditors

Lead by example to drive a team culture of engaging, inspired, and empowered individuals who add value across the organization

Manage a team of approximately 2 on‑shore employees and 10 off‑shore employees

Deliver on hybrid work schedule, with an on–site presence of 2–3 days per week combining flexibility with team collaboration

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Finance

8+ years related audit or controls experience, with public accounting or internal audit experience preferred

Experience leading ICFR audit engagements including business process controls, ITDCs, and ITGCs and CUECs

Knowledge of IIA auditing standards, SEC financial reporting and US GAAP requirements, PCAOB (AS5) requirements, and SOX/MAR requirements

Proven analytical, written/verbal communication, interpersonal, relationship building, and problem‑solving skills

Demonstrated ability to foster positive working relationships and collaboration across global teams, both on‑site and remotely

Knowledge of the generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP); ability to apply GAAP appropriately within the organization.

Internal Controls:

Knowledge of concept, methods, and processes of internal control; ability to create, implement, evaluate and enhance processes in internal controls.

Results Orientation:

Knowledge of the importance of meeting or exceeding established targets; ability to drive critical activities to completion.

Compensation and Benefits The base salary range for this position is $125,000–$150,000. Actual base salaries vary based on skills, experience, and geographical location. In addition to base pay, Equitable provides compensation to reward performance with base salary increases, spot bonuses, and short‑term incentive compensation opportunities. Eligibility for these programs depends on level and functional area of responsibility.
