Overview
Lead the charge in shaping dynamic sports programs and recreation experiences that bring people together.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Health and Wellness Programming, the JCC Greater Boston Sports & Rec Manager develops and manages high‑quality sports programs and activities at JCC GB. This role requires a motivated, passionate, creative professional who can work autonomously and is committed to delivering exceptional, member‑focused programming that reflects current trends. The position drives program revenue growth, safety, member satisfaction, and retention through strong sports programming and facility operations.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic and supervisory leadership of Sports and Recreation programs, including Pickleball, tennis, basketball, and table tennis.

Own and manage the strategic direction of these programs—identify best offerings, adjust the portfolio as warranted, set appropriate pricing, and stay current with new developments.

Manage the respective budgets and work with managers or instructors to drive revenue growth and positive net asset impact.

Search for new offerings and identify new opportunities through research, analytics, and forecasting to drive incremental growth of Sports & Rec revenue, then implement and manage these new offerings.

Consult and collaborate with program leads outside Health & Wellness for the FEJL youth sports programs and the JCC GB Maccabi team.

Ideate, implement, and manage promotional and retention strategies for all sports programs, ensuring member satisfaction and policy adherence and managing Sports‑related member complaints and issues.

Promote and market Sports programs, directly and through collaboration with Marketing.

Collaborate on ad‑hoc projects and events, including open houses, member appreciation events, and family fun days.

Perform administrative functions and coordination necessary to support Health & Wellness Sports & Rec programming and Sports Facilities operations.

Accountable for operational logistics: program/service scheduling, court rentals, registrations, staff scheduling, and marketing promotional activity.

Oversee gymnasium scheduling and coordinate with other departments to support their Sports facilities’ needs (e.g., Camps, ELC, After‑School Program).

Communicate schedule information and changes internally with Health & Wellness and with other JCC stakeholders (Membership, Member Relations, and On‑Duty Managers).

Provide functional management of the Health & Wellness Operations Coordinator on sports‑related activities.

Work with program staff and Facilities to manage all internal/external programs, schedules, and rentals to ensure accurate coordination in all Health and Wellness spaces.

Update website schedules and internal booking tool (ReSched).

Analyze internal and external markets to identify trends and opportunities.

Plan, schedule, staff, budget, and promote all assigned sports‑related programs.

Maintain efficient gym and facility schedules, ensuring equipment is available, functional, and safe, and order new equipment as needed.

Report safety hazards, unclean conditions, or malfunctioning equipment promptly.

Actively create a welcoming dynamic where each individual is valued, seen, and welcomed.

Actively participate as an essential member of the Health & Wellness team.

Support JCC Greater Boston’s mission, vision, and values of belonging, joyfulness, collaboration, and transformation through personal role modeling.

Participate in all staff meetings and trainings as assigned, and contribute to overall organizational success.

Attend JCC GB All Staff meetings.

Other duties as assigned.

Identify staffing needs and, as warranted, oversee hiring and onboarding of new Sports & Rec staff.

Supervise all Sports Pros (Pickleball, Tennis, Table Tennis, Basketball), including scheduling, payroll, and program strategy.

Perform supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, payroll, class scheduling, performance management, and collaboration with Health & Wellness leadership and Human Resources.

Uphold the organization’s policies and align work with JCC’s mission, vision, and strategic objectives, reporting to the Senior Director of Fitness & Wellness Programs.

Create an environment where employees can achieve individual goals and conduct supervisory meetings to provide ongoing guidance and engagement.

Coordinate procurement for program needs and oversee equipment and supply purchasing.

Attend program staff meetings and management meetings.

Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Recreation Management, or a related field (preferred). Two or more years of management experience in coordinating sports and/or leagues (preferred). CPR certification required, or willing to become certified upon hire.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted at the JCC’s discretion to meet minimum criteria.

Skills and Abilities

Strong leadership and organizational skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Comfort with Microsoft Office and ability to learn JCC‑specific programs such as Salesforce and UPACE.

Knowledge of industry standards and best practices in Sports & Recreation.

Experience with budget management and program evaluation.

Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and build positive relationships with members and program participants.

Passion for health, fitness, and wellness.

Physical Requirements
The position offers occasional remote work for administrative tasks but requires on‑site presence for most responsibilities. The applicant must work well in a busy, dynamic environment involving multiple tasks and priorities. Remote work requires a laptop, phone, reliable internet connection, and necessary software. The applicant must be available to respond via email or phone as needed, including weekends. Ability to lift and carry objects up to 40 pounds and to manage occasional events during weekends and evenings is required.

Employment Status and Compensation
Part‑time (30 hours per week), salaried position offering a comprehensive benefits package, a supportive work environment with a hybrid work option for some administrative duties, and a competitive starting salary range of $42,000 – $45,000 annually, adjusted for qualifications and experience.
