CBS News & Stations is looking for an innovative AR/VR Designer (Unreal Artist) to help redefine what news looks like across our 15 owned and operated CBS stations. This is a rare opportunity to be one of the design minds revolutionizing real-time visual storytelling for live broadcast, weather, and breaking news across the biggest media markets in the country.
We are seeking a multifaceted Unreal Artist to help build impactful, visually compelling, and realistic 3D AR / Mixed Reality experiences. The ideal candidate is highly confident working in Unreal Engine, comfortable creating and modeling assets and understands how to craft optimized graphics, assets, and blueprints for real-time broadcast execution.
You will collaborate closely with creative, editorial, engineering, and production teams to design next‑generation virtual environments and weather storytelling tools that elevate how audiences experience the news.
We are open to considering the office location for this position as any one of our CBS O&O stations.
Responsibilities
Create high-quality 3D environments and assets using Blender, Cinema 4D and other emerging 3D tools for use in Unreal Engine
Model, texture, light, and rig assets and environments for AR / VR / XR executions
Work with creative and production teams to deploy, iterate, test, and refine designs for live broadcast
Work directly with Meteorologists to create and define our presentation while adhering to brand standards set by VP, Group Design Director
Conceptualize and execute new AR/VR features that push visual storytelling forward
Design and implement animation and control systems to support flexible live production workflows
Optimize scenes and assets to maintain required real‑time performance levels
Assist in the development and implementation of testing and validation procedures
Troubleshoot and address technical and creative issues across environments and assets
Participate in ongoing workflow, pipeline, and toolset enhancements
Collaborate with editorial, production, and creative teams to enhance news, weather, elections, and special coverage through the unique capabilities of virtual production
Support station‑level execution across CBS Stations; some travel may be required
Qualifications
3+ years of experience in broadcast design, real‑time graphics, virtual production, or game development
A strong portfolio demonstrating a range of high‑quality 3D, AR/VR, or real‑time design work
Proficiency with real‑time rendering software, particularly Unreal Engine
Proficiency in 3D Modeling and Texturing tools; Blender and Cinema4D experience are strongly preferred
Strong Proficiency in Particle Effect Systems (Niagara), Virtual Lighting, Material Functions, Event-based Logical Functions
Familiarity with Blueprints, asset optimization, and real‑time production constraints
Demonstrated interest in weather storytelling and data‑driven visualization
Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite
Experience with tools such as Substance 3D, ZBrush, or similar design platforms
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
Ability to work proficiently in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven, live broadcast environment
Highly collaborative, self‑motivated, and comfortable contributing in a creative, evolving production culture

Additional Information Hiring Salary Range: $100,000.00 - 125,000.00. The hiring salary range for this position applies to New York, California, Colorado, Washington state, and most other geographies. Starting pay for the successful applicant depends on a variety of job‑related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, tuition assistance program and PTO or, if applicable, as otherwise dictated by the appropriate Collective Bargaining Agreement.
