Technical Designer/Senior Technical Designer

Objective The Technical Designer and Senior Designer support all phases of project delivery—from concept and estimation through design development and production. This role works closely with Business Development, Project Management, Estimation and Production teams to translate artistic intent into buildable, cost-effective solutions.
The ideal candidate will be based at our
Rock Tavern, New York workshop . Occasional travel to project sites, and/or vendor facilities may be required.
Key Responsibilities Concept & Pre-Contract Support
Support Business Development and Estimation with concept design, renderings, and preliminary models
Participate in pipeline and pre-contract meetings
Develop early-stage 3D models, scans, and design assets for proposals
Collaborate with artists/clients during concept development
Design Development
Review project documentation to define scope, risks, and design approach
Develop design schedules and deliverables with Project Managers
Coordinate with artists, engineers, and internal teams
Produce 3D models and design documentation using tools such as Rhino, SolidWorks, or ZBrush
Prepare design submittals for stakeholder review and approval
Production Design
Refine 3D models and scans into production-ready assets
Develop fabrication methodologies in collaboration with workshop teams
Create detailed production drawings, assembly documentation, and BOMs
Design mounting, rigging, crating, and installation strategies
Support manufacturing processes including 3D printing, and casting
Senior Designer (Additional Expectations)
Operate with a high level of autonomy and limited oversight
Lead development of fabrication strategies and design execution
Translate artistic intent, constraints, and risks into clear deliverables
Coordinate effectively across design, engineering, and production teams
Anticipate project risks, manage scope changes, and guide project direction
Mentor others and contribute to team development
Experience & Qualifications
Designer | Associate: 5+years
Designer | Senior Associate: 7+ years
Proficiency in Rhino, SolidWorks, ZBrush, Magics, and Adobe Suite
Strong 3D modeling, drafting, and design documentation skills
Experience working across design, engineering, and fabrication workflows
Effective communication and collaboration skills
(Senior) Advanced understanding of fabrication methods, project lifecycle, and structural coordination
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer and using design software
Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing, mouse use, and handling design tools or materials
Ability to view and interpret detailed drawings, plans, and computer screens for prolonged periods
Occasional standing, walking, bending, or reaching while reviewing prototypes, materials, or equipment
Ability to lift and carry light to moderate items (typically up to 25–30 lbs), such as samples, drawings, or tools
May require occasional visits to manufacturing facilities, workshops, or job sites, which can involve exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and environments
Ability to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required in shop or field settings
Ability to travel occasionally to vendor sites, job sites, or other company locations
Designer: $88,698 – $111,712 annually
Senior Designer: $98,781 – $124,227 annually
