About The Role
First Bank of Montana is hiring a Commercial/Ag Lender to be an integral part of our team in Northcentral Montana. The position involves making commercial and agricultural loans to our customers and requires a positive attitude, strong customer service skills, and the ability to work in a team atmosphere. Professionalism, confidentiality, good attendance, punctuality, flexibility, and adaptability are essential.
Duties and Responsibilities
Maintain extensive contact with customers, vendors, the general public, and bank staff.
Build and maintain a loan portfolio and act as a liaison between the bank and its customers.
Participate in community involvement and bank‑sponsored activities.
Comply with applicable laws and regulations, including Dodd‑Frank, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act, and OFAC.
Complete required online training courses and achieve at least an 85% score by the due date.
Maintain loan quality in compliance with bank policy, underwriting standards, and documentation requirements.
Loan Officer Essential Functions
Maintain a working knowledge of all bank products and services.
Grow the in‑house loan portfolio.
Identify and develop profitable relationships with new potential customers by maintaining an aggressive call schedule.
Cross‑sell bank products and refer customers, when appropriate, to other departments or affiliate banks.
Assist in identifying and implementing new products and services.
Participate in market analysis of competitors’ rates and make recommendations based on the findings.
Develop and maintain profitable relationships with new and existing customers.
Obtain loan applications, counsel applicants, analyze financial and related data, determine appropriate pricing and loan structure, and make loan decisions according to bank policies and procedures.
Provide high service standards for all customers, both internal and external, working closely with bank managers and staff.
Review credit reports, financial statements, tax returns, title insurance commitments, and appraisals to ensure documentation is complete and correct.
Monitor and act appropriately on past‑due loans to ensure compliance with bank policies, procedures, and goals.
Maintain current awareness of legal and regulatory developments and guidelines related to compliance.

Perform job functions in compliance with all company policies, federal and state rules, and regulations such as BSA/AML, OFAC, and GLBA/privacy rules.
Keep management informed of area activities and significant problems.
Participate in community service and bank‑sponsored activities that support the bank’s mission and values.

Represent First Bank of Montana professionally, maintaining confidentiality and a positive “can‑do” attitude. Keep the work area tidy and maintain customer privacy.
Ensure regular and predictable attendance to allow in‑person contact with customers.

About You Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
5 years of lending experience with emphasis on commercial and/or agricultural loans.
History of growing a loan portfolio.
Knowledge, Skill, Ability
Ability to work quickly and accurately.
Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
General understanding of agriculture.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and ability to learn new systems.
Credit analysis ability.
Work Environment Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in a climate‑controlled shared work area with minimal noise.
