Position Overview
Zurich is seeking an Executive Underwriter or AVP, Underwriting Director - Property to join our Commercial Insurance team in the Atlanta office. The role requires market-facing responsibilities, analysing and underwriting new and renewal business, and applying the Zurich Way of Underwriting Framework within delegated authority levels.
Key Responsibilities
Administer and monitor underwriting rules and guidelines, rating manual rules, and insurance laws and regulations.
Develop, maintain & collaborate with Line of Business representatives and other business related needs.
Build and sustain relationships with distributors (agents & brokers) to support business retention and acquisition, and work with them to determine insurance needs and provide solutions.
Serve as a Help Point for agents, brokers and customers, supporting the organization’s sales culture.
Proactively seek renewal and new account opportunities.
Conduct detailed opportunity assessments with key distributors to identify growth opportunities.
Qualify accounts to align with the organization’s appetite while balancing sound business opportunity.
Make broker/customer and on‑site calls with a well‑planned purpose.
Basic Qualifications Executive Underwriter
High School Diploma or Equivalent plus 5+ years of experience in underwriting or a market‑facing area.
Or High School Diploma or Equivalent plus 10+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support.
Or Zurich approved Apprenticeship program with an associate degree and 3+ years of experience in underwriting or a market‑facing area.
Or Zurich approved Apprenticeship program with an associate degree and 8+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
Experience working under time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business.
Experience working in a team environment.
AVP, Underwriting Director
High School Diploma or Equivalent plus 7+ years of experience in underwriting or a market‑facing area.
Or High School Diploma or Equivalent plus 14+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support.
Or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 5+ years of experience in underwriting or a market‑facing area.
Or Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice with an associate degree and 12+ years of experience in claims or underwriting support.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications
Technical knowledge of commercial Property underwriting.
Established broker relationships in the Southeast region.
Creative problem‑solving skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Compensation The salary range for this position is $100,000.00 - $215,000.00, with short‑term incentive bonuses ranging from 15% to 20%. Compensation is based on role, location, skills, and experience. Eligibility for bonuses and merit increases may apply.
