Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: RN: $1,200$1,500/week | LPN: $950$1,200/week Based on experience and qualifications; compensation is flexible based on leadership level and family situation
  • Shift: One full day off each week; personal time worked into every day

Job Summary

This is a command role, not a floor nurse position. The Head Nurse holds final authority over all clinical decisions and Health Center operations for a 300+ person residential community, leading a three-person nursing team through an 8-bed infirmary across a full summer season.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run daily Health Center operations in an 8-bed infirmary; set up for the season before camp opens and sustain full readiness through closing day
  • Build and manage the nursing team schedule for three nurses; distribute time off fairly and plan coverage proactively across the season
  • Manage daily medication administration for approximately 30% of the camp population; maintain active coordination with outside pharmacies and providers
  • Log and update all health records in real time using the camp's online health management platform
  • Carry out on-site diagnostic testing including strep and other routine assessments
  • Certify staff on key medical procedures, with EpiPen administration as a core training component
  • Stay ahead of camper health developments; get families on the phone when a situation is clinically significant
  • Handle emergencies without hesitation; oversee transfers to local medical facilities when the situation demands it
  • Function within established county emergency services protocols, accounting for an average ambulance response window of 2530 minutes
  • Interface with visiting physicians; lock in backup nursing coverage for any window without a physician on-site

Minimum Requirements

  • Active RN or LPN license in good standing
  • 4+ years of professional nursing practice
  • 3+ years of clinical experience with children ages 617
  • Proven record leading or supervising a clinical team
  • Comfortable and effective teaching clinical procedures to non-nursing staff
  • Exceptionally organized with the scheduling discipline to manage a multi-person team
  • Fully committed to on-site residential living from June 8 through August 19
