Position Summary
The Product Designer will serve as a key contributor within the Product Development organization, responsible for driving the design and execution of softline products across our portfolio. This role extends beyond traditional design execution and requires strong ownership of product outcomes, including alignment to cost for manufacture targets, margin expectations, and commercialization timelines. The Product Designer will play a critical role in translating product vision into manufacturable, cost‑effective solutions that meet both consumer needs and business objectives.
This is a highly cross‑functional role that requires close collaboration with Product Management, Engineering, Sales, and global sourcing teams. The ideal candidate brings a balance of creative design capability, technical expertise, and commercial acumen, with the ability to influence product direction while ensuring disciplined execution.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and development of softline products from concept through commercialization
Translate product requirements into innovative, manufacturable design solutions
Own design deliverables including tech packs, specifications, and construction documentation
Drive iteration through prototyping, sample review, and product validation
Cost & Commercial Alignment
Design products to meet cost for manufacture targets and finished margin objectives
Partner with Product Management and sourcing teams to balance cost, quality, and performance
Identify cost drivers and proactively recommend design or material adjustments to meet financial goals
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with Product Development, Engineering, Sales, and Asia‑based manufacturing partners
Support alignment between design intent, production capabilities, and business objectives
Contribute to product direction through competitive analysis and consumer insights
Materials, Construction & Sourcing
Lead material selection, textile development, trims, and component specification
Collaborate with factories to optimize construction methods, scalability, and efficiency
Ensure designs are production‑ready and aligned with manufacturing capabilities
Execution & Accountability
Ensure all products meet regulatory and compliance requirements
Participate in milestone reviews and cross‑functional stage gate processes
Maintain accountability for timelines, deliverables, and overall product readiness
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Product Design, Industrial Design, or related field
5+ years of product design experience in softgoods or softlines
Proven experience designing sewn products including technical textiles, outdoor gear, bags, seating, and shelters
Demonstrated ability to manage products to cost for manufacture targets and finished margin requirements
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, with strong emphasis on Illustrator
Experience developing detailed tech packs and construction documentation
Strong understanding of textiles, materials, pattern development, and construction techniques
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, cross‑functional environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the outdoor, camping, or performance gear industry
Familiarity with 3D design tools such as CLO, Rhino, SolidWorks, or similar
Experience with product testing and validation processes
Willingness to travel internationally for product development and factory collaboration
