Small Business Loan Associate

Job Summary The Small Business Loan Associate’s focus will be to support the SBA Loan Specialist in documenting compliance with the Small Business Administration’s SOP (Standard Operating Procedures), and to assist in underwriting Small Business Loans. In addition to those listed below, responsibilities include helping internal and external clients understand the requirements of the SBA and how to properly document the requirements to ensure compliance.

This is an entry-level position and no knowledge of commercial banking or the Small Business Administration is required.

Primary Responsibilities

Thoroughly reviewing loan materials and documentation for accuracy, SBA compliance, and completeness.

Maintaining digital files with all items required for SBA compliance.

Drafting and preparing loan materials for SBA Loan Specialist review.

Drafting and maintaining SBA loan checklist and initiating communication with staff regarding loan status updates, current priorities, and deadlines.

Serving as a liaison to the Borrower and Bank in preparation of an SBA‑compliant loan application.

Interacting with Small Business Lending team in analyzing client financial data.

Managing underwriting process from start to finish for Small Business Loans up to $500,000.

Maintaining an up‑to‑date Pipeline report.

Assisting with special projects related to SBA Programs or Small Business Lending.

Responsibilities of all team members include:

Understanding their role and their team members’ roles in risk mitigation.

Identifying solutions for areas of improvement.

Having open and honest communication that serves to improve our team.

Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities

Must be proactive, organized, process‑oriented, analytical, and highly engaged with their work, team members, and internal/external clients.

Successful team members are detail‑oriented, effective communicators and able to handle multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree with a Business‑related major is preferred.

Experience within finance, accounting, or analytics is a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities

None. May assist with training new team members.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and/or working on a computer.
