Digital Design Manager
Renesas Electronics Corporation, Lincoln, NE, United States
Overview Technical Manager role requiring 15+ years of experience in Digital design for Analog Mixed signal ICs, focusing on power management ICs (PMICs) as part of the 2.6B$ Power Business Unit at Renesas. Primary responsibilities include leading a team to define microarchitecture and develop all Digital components of PMICs, starting from system requirements. Collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure successful integration of Digital and Analog components in ICs is essential. The candidate will work on a range of PMICs, including Linear and Switching DC-DC converters for mobile devices. This is an early-stage growth opportunity to learn, build, and influence the charter for Renesas’s Power product portfolio.
Responsibilities
Manage the Digital Design team in terms of costs, methods and staffing to support device/silicon design requirements and meet design deadlines as set by the program schedule.
Mentor direct reports, providing guidance and regularly reviewing technical and behavioral performance.
Define Dig‑Ana boundary and Digital design scope for PMICs/Analog‑intensive ICs.
Define micro-architectures and sub-blocks for ICs to ensure optimized Digital design, RTL design, and gate-level netlists.
Be aware of Power‑sensitive digital design and perform Power estimation for Digital I/Os.
Handle Clock Domain Crossing across multiple clock domains, lead/collaborate on Logic Synthesis, Formal verification, Power estimation, and STA.
Experience with OTP, MTP, Efuse read/writes, controller design and data bus handling, Register read/write, trimming of Analog parts/functions, DFT architecture and integration.
Create Sequences (including Power Up/Down) and State Machines and transitions based on IC requirements.
Expertise in one or more Power Chip Communication I/Ps and protocols (e.g., I2C, PMBUS, SVI3, SVID).
Implement and analyze filters and feedback loops in Digital, with knowledge of Z-domain analysis.
Perform silicon debugs and root cause analysis, and establish design-to-silicon correlation.
Understand common control loop architectures (Constant Frequency, Constant ON/OFF Time, Current mode) and their pros/limitations.
Introduce innovative ideas to improve designs to meet challenging specifications and enhance system performance.
Set up Digital design flows and methodologies, including checklists and reviews, to ensure quality designs through to silicon success.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
15+ years in Digital Design and experience with Mixed Signal ICs, especially PMICs.
Solid understanding and design experience of complex AMS designs.
Experience with chip design, verification, silicon validation, debugs, and qualification support for production.
Technical leader, people manager and team player with mentoring skills; ability to foster a creative and productive environment.
Ability to collaborate with senior leadership to develop team objectives aligned with wider company strategy.
Ability to work with senior management to develop and manage budgets.
Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Results-oriented with the ability to deliver on time under tight schedules.
