Fortune Brands, san francisco, ca, United States
Fortune Brands Innovations, Inc. seeks a Director of Hardware Product Management for its Connected Security portfolio. The role leads the hardware product strategy and execution across the Yale, August, Master Lock, and Sentry Safe smart security device families.
Location : Eligible for a hybrid schedule working out of our Deerfield, IL headquarters with remote days on Mondays and Fridays.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Own the 4P strategy (Product, Price, Place, Promotion) for hardware across the Connected Security portfolio, serving as the primary product authority.
- Define and maintain a rolling 3‑year hardware product roadmap aligned to business strategy, customer needs, and competitive positioning.
- Lead by doing—writing product briefs, running line reviews, and presenting roadmaps to senior leadership.
- Lead cross‑functional new product development teams through the full product lifecycle—from unmet need identification to commercial launch—across retail, e‑commerce, and B2B channels.
- Partner with engineering, industrial design, operations, and marketing to deliver differentiated, manufacturable, and profitable hardware products.
- Develop winning go‑to‑market plans, including pricing strategy, channel mix, demand forecasting, and messaging frameworks.
- Conduct primary and secondary market research, competitive analysis, and consumer insight development to identify category trends and whitespace opportunities.
- Translate voice‑of‑customer and channel partner feedback into clear, actionable product requirements.
- Build and develop the hardware product management team—establishing practices, raising the bar on craft, and developing the next generation of PMs.
- Align roadmap investments to strategic customer requirements across both consumer (B2C) and business (B2B) segments.
What Brings Success to this Role
- Builder mindset—creating clarity from ambiguity, setting processes, and driving results through influence.
- Deep fluency in consumer electronics or smart home technology product development, with an understanding of hardware constraints, BOM trade‑offs, and connected device lifecycles.
- Strong 4P instincts: pricing architecture, channel dynamics, positioning strategy, and promotional trade‑offs.
- Customer obsession—using research and data to guide decisions and navigate between consumer insight and business case.
- Cross‑functional leadership presence—aligning and motivating engineering, design, sales, operations, and finance without direct authority.
- Comfort owning a portfolio with both B2C and B2B dimensions, understanding channel dynamics and success metrics for each.
- Bias for clarity—simplifying complexity, writing crisp product briefs, and making hard prioritization calls.
- Instinct for developing others—investing in the team and raising the standard of practice in the PM function.
