Director, Category Development - On Premise

Salary

New York City: $157,440 – $186,960, bonus and long-term incentive eligible.

St. Louis, MO: $131,200 – $155,800, bonus and long-term incentive eligible.

Role Summary

The Category Development team is a fast-paced, human-centric team within the A‑B Commercial organization. The team draws on diverse data sources including Circana, Nielsen & Numerator and primary research. Your role is to partner with On‑Premise Sales leadership and field teams to identify opportunities, synthesize insights, and drive category growth across On‑Premise channels.

Job Responsibilities

  • Own category retail relationships and identify new opportunities within all On‑Premise channels: Independent Bars and Restaurants, Casual Dining (e.g., Buffalo Wild Wings), Concessionaires, Hotels, Airports, Casinos, etc.
  • Manage planograms and the reset process for concessionaires and venues.
  • Develop thought‑leadership applied across the commercial and retail organization, including RFP development, tap/package assortment optimization, menu optimization, etc.
  • Develop the On‑Premise narratives for the Retail Category Strategy.
  • Partner with data suppliers to identify gaps/opportunities and expand data reach.
  • Lead and develop a small team of analysts and contractors.

Job Qualifications

  • 4 year bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Must work in office 5 days a week.
  • 10+ years of strategy, insights, marketing and/or sales experience (mid‑to‑large CPG or consumer research/strategy agency desired), with category or sales experience preferred.
  • Proactive thinker – independent, drives opportunities without day‑to‑day guidance.
  • Collaborator in a dynamic environment – ability to build relationships & influence across internal and external stakeholders up to senior leadership.
  • Strong presentation skills – experience speaking publicly to leadership.
  • Curious, analytical, creative, strategic – translate shopper behavior into actionable insights.
  • Data literacy – proficiency with Nielsen data and Numerator preferred.
