Temporary - Senior Art Director Job at Monks in Los Angeles

Monks, Los Angeles, CA, United States

About The Role
As a Senior Art Director , you'll be a hands–on creative force within a multidisciplinary team led by the Group Creative Director. You’ll help bring big ideas to life, executing standout work across digital, social, and video with a sharp eye for craft, storytelling, and design excellence.

This role sits in the details — designing, building, and refining creative assets — while contributing to broader campaign narratives and visual systems. You’ll collaborate closely with Creative Directors, Designers, Copywriters, Producers, and Strategists to deliver work that feels native to the platform, on‑brand for a major client (one of the world’s leading e‑commerce and technology platforms), and scalable across markets.

We’re looking for a Senior Art Director who is fluent in digital design, strong in visual storytelling, and comfortable creating high‑quality work at speed. You’ll bring both conceptual thinking and pixel‑perfect execution, along with AI fluency to help evolve and activate an established brand system across multiple sub‑brands and channels.

This is not a role focused on building new brands from scratch. It’s about taking an existing brand system and bringing it to life — pushing it forward thoughtfully, expressing it with clarity and consistency, and elevating the work at scale. You’ll operate within a complex, multi‑brand ecosystem, creating concepts, visual systems, and executions that feel fresh while remaining unmistakably on‑brand.

Working Hours
This role is remote, but the team operates on Pacific Time (PST/PDT) . Candidates must be able to work primarily within these hours.

Responsibilities

Create and execute visual concepts across digital, social, and video formats.

Develop layouts, mockups, prototypes, and production‑ready assets with a high level of polish.

Safeguard visual quality across all deliverables, maintaining consistency with Amazon’s design system and narrative tone of voice (“Charm and Disarm”).

Contribute to style frames and visual systems that scale across formats, regions, and channels.

Support campaign storytelling through visual development and storyboarding.

Help translate creative briefs into compelling visual narratives, particularly for motion, film, and animation‑based work.

Partner with Copywriters and Creative Directors to ensure ideas land clearly and emotionally.

Use AI tools daily to support concepting, exploration, and iteration.

Generate AI visual options efficiently without compromising brand accuracy.

Apply strong judgment to when AI is helpful and when traditional craft is better.

Work closely with the Group Creative Director and broader creative team to execute campaigns from concept through delivery.

Collaborate with Strategists, Account Leads, and Producers to ensure creative aligns with project goals and timelines.

Participate in daily stand‑ups and creative reviews to maintain alignment and momentum.

Use Figma confidently for collaborative design, layout development, and feedback cycles.

Help produce assets at scale using tools and workflows, including AI‑assisted production.

Contribute ideas to improve creative processes, templates, and efficiencies.

Stay current on design trends, platform best practices, and emerging creative formats.

Maintain high standards across all outputs, ensuring thoughtful design, strong storytelling, and attention to detail.

Take ownership of assigned deliverables from start to finish.

About You

5+ years of experience as a Senior Designer, Lead Designer, or Art Director within agency, advertising, or production environments.

Strong portfolio demonstrating both conceptual thinking and hands‑on execution across digital, social, and video.

Advanced proficiency in Photoshop and Figma, with experience creating high‑volume digital assets at speed.

Proven experience working within and evolving established brand systems across multiple formats and channels.

Strong foundation in typography, layout, composition, visual hierarchy, and storytelling.

Fluency in AI tools within a design workflow (e.g., Midjourney, Runway, etc.) — using AI as an amplifier for craft and iteration, not a shortcut.

A strong visual and photographic eye, with attention to realism, detail, and brand consistency.

Ability to balance speed and quality in a fast‑paced, high‑output environment.

Comfortable working in collaborative, cross‑functional teams and presenting ideas internally and to clients.

Strong English communication skills and experience working with global teams.

What Sets You Apart

A systems thinker who can translate brand guidelines into scalable, high‑quality creative across channels.

Comfortable iterating quickly and adapting work based on feedback without being overly attached to a single direction.

Curious and up to date with visual culture, trends, and emerging tools.

Hands‑on across the full design process — not limited to retouching or a single discipline.

Positive, collaborative, and proactive in contributing ideas.

Nice to Have

Film or animation production experience, including storyboarding and narrative development.

Benefits

Excellent, full coverage medical, dental, and vision insurance.

Generous PTO and 15 company‑wide holidays.

401k with company contribution.

Paid parental leave.

Work‑life balance with an emphasis on personal well‑being.

Career growth in a disruptor space & entrepreneurial opportunities within the Monks network.

A globally diverse & inclusive culture with employee resource groups such as S4 Melanin, Pride.Monks, Cultura.Monks, and more.

Authentic commitment to DEI efforts and sustainable growth. (Why Sir Martin Sorrell signed The Climate Pledge here!)
