Mad Fish Digital, Inc, Portland, OR, United States
Senior SEO Manager
Department: SEO
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Portland, Oregon, USA
Reporting To: Associate Director of SEO
Compensation: $84,000 - $95,000 / year
Description
We’re looking for a Senior SEO Manager to lead enterprise organic growth programs across traditional search and modern discovery channels—including AI-powered SERPs, Google AI Overviews, and large language models (LLMs).
This is a strategy-first role. You'll own the full organic playbook for a portfolio of enterprise and high-growth clients: shaping the vision, building roadmaps, partnering with content and analytics teams, and guiding execution across every lever that moves organic performance. You'll be the trusted advisor in the room—translating SEO into business outcomes for senior marketing leaders and C-suite stakeholders.
Modern SEO isn't just rankings. It's sustainable visibility, authority, and influence across how people and machines discover information. We want someone who thinks holistically about that ecosystem—content strategy, audience and intent research, digital PR and authority-building, measurement, and yes, the technical foundation that makes it all work.
You'll also help level up the SEO team—mentoring teammates, defining best practices, and raising the bar across accounts.
What You'll Do
Own end-to-end organic strategy for a portfolio of enterprise clients—from discovery and roadmap through execution, measurement, and storytelling
Serve as the primary SEO lead and strategic advisor, confidently presenting to senior marketers and executive stakeholders
Build integrated strategies that span:
Content strategy, topical authority, and pillar/collection architecture
Keyword and audience intent research tied to business KPIs
Brand visibility and accuracy within LLM-driven discovery (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, etc.) and Google AI Overviews
On-page optimization and conversion-minded content improvements
A healthy technical foundation—site architecture, crawlability, indexation, Core Web Vitals, structured data
Off-site authority, link strategy, and digital PR collaboration
Prioritize tasks and strategies by balancing business impact, effort, and technical constraints
Define and own measurement frameworks using GA4, Google Search Console, Looker Studio, and emerging AI visibility tools—then turn data into stories clients can act on
Translate SEO requirements into clear direction for developers, content teams, and client stakeholders (you don't need to write the code, but you need to know what to ask for and why)
Collaborate closely with Content, Paid Media, Analytics, and Client Success to integrate SEO into broader marketing strategy
Mentor teammates and help shape how we execute SEO across the agency
Qualifications & Experience
5+ years of progressive SEO experience, ideally in an agency or enterprise environment
A true generalist's toolkit: you can move fluidly between content strategy, keyword and audience research, on-page optimization, technical SEO, measurement, and authority-building
Proven experience owning long-term, enterprise SEO strategies end-to-end
Working knowledge of technical SEO—enough to diagnose issues, scope fixes, and guide developers with confidence (you don't need to be the one writing the implementation)
Strong analytics and measurement chops (GA4, GSC, Looker Studio)
Hands-on experience with tools like Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, Semrush, or similar
Excellent client-facing communication skills and the ability to influence senior stakeholders
Strong organizational skills and comfort juggling multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Nice to Have
Experience optimizing for AI Overviews and LLM-driven discovery
Ecommerce SEO experience (large catalogs, faceted navigation, feed-driven pages)
Familiarity with CMS platforms like WordPress, Shopify, or headless setups
Comfort experimenting with AI tools and automation to improve workflows and insight
