Job Duties and Responsibilities

Supervise staff of the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC): conduct appraisals, plan and direct work, approve leave, authorize hiring and disciplinary actions.

Provide WIC and nutrition services within an assigned geographic area in Orange County; headquarters at Eastside WIC Office.

Maintain vacation and work schedules, complete timesheets, review all staff training and coordinate additional training.

Monitor quality and quantity of work by direct reports, assess employee time utilization, prioritize work assignments, meet deadlines, and communicate regularly with staff.

Review and approve travel reimbursement, time and attendance reports, and electronic benefit usage for site staff.

Prepare records and reports: summarize and analyze statistics of WIC program services, work on FL WiSE reports, distribute client lists to nutrition and support staff.

Approve medical, office supply, and food inventories requisitions and reports; submit monthly reports and as requested.

Delegate supervision coverage to licensed nutrition staff including monitoring medical food orders, inventories, staff leave time and work schedules.

Update position descriptions for direct reports to ensure accuracy; participate in staff hiring processes.

Perform nutrition assessment, provide culturally relevant nutrition counseling, develop nutrition care plans, and complete appropriate documentation in WIC administrative and/or medical file.

Determine nutritional risk and/or income eligibility, certify participants to the WIC Program in accordance with DHM 150-24.

Issue electronic benefits to certified participants according to DHM 150-24 and the Florida WiSE System Manual; schedule appointments via the WIC appointment system.

Review use of electronic benefits in approved grocery stores and answer participant questions regarding the WIC program.

Oversee integration of WIC and nutrition program services within assigned geographic area; coordinate site management with other WIC and departmental supervisors, community agencies and organizations.

Serve as consultant on nutrition and dietetics for health department staff, community agencies and the public; maintain up-to-date knowledge of current theory and practice of nutrition and dietetics.

Participate in comprehensive nutrition program and outreach activities as requested.

Perform related duties as requested/required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Ability to supervise employees and establish effective working relationships.

Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, and ensure proper completion of assignments.

Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Knowledge of WIC program policies and procedures.

Knowledge of current science and practice of nutrition and dietetics.

Knowledge of nutritional and dietary assessment techniques.

Ability to analyze and interpret anthropometric, biochemical, dietary and clinical data.

Knowledge of basic mathematical calculations.

Minimum Qualifications

Verifiable license as a Dietitian/Nutritionist in Florida (Chapter 468, Florida Statutes).

Authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

At least 3 years of professional experience in Public Health Nutrition, or a master’s degree in Nutrition from an accredited college/university recognized by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Verifiable experience with the Florida WIC Information System (FL WiSE) and Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT).

Work may be required during or beyond normal hours in emergencies or to perform other emergency duties.

Will be required to physically work in the office.
