Position Summary

The Resident Advisor (RA) will work with the Program Director and Institute staff to facilitate an environment on campus and within the Domestic Field Study program that contributes to and supports the overall experience of the students. They will also assist with aquarium operations at MAREX. Responsibilities

Availability

Be available to support students during the Field Study experience, including negotiated duty periods during evening hours and “on call” hours not to exceed 25 hours per week. Reside on campus during the employment period. Coordinate with Program Director to schedule periods away from campus. Support staff at the UGA/Marine Extension Aquarium, not exceeding 15 hours per week. Community Building

Maintain interactions with students and be accessible to support their experience and success. Develop a sense of inclusiveness and connectedness. Plan, implement, and evaluate community building activities. Maintain awareness of students’ academic success, sense of belonging, and overall well‑being. Ability to work with K‑12 students (minors) on educational programs. Crisis Management

Provide leadership and model appropriate behavior in a crisis. Fulfill on‑call responsibilities as communicated by the Program Director. Demonstrate care and concern for student well‑being by following up with students involved in crisis situations. Confront alleged policy violations, behavioral concerns, and facility issues. Consult and work with Program Director and/or other staff members on call when developing a plan to respond to student issues. Administrative Skills

Submit work requests for all facility concerns. Meet deadlines set by Program Director and/or Institute. Attend and be punctual to scheduled meetings, trainings, and events. Respond to all work‑related emails within 24 hours. Ability to perform duties as aquarium cashier. Interpersonal Skills

Interact with residents on a consistent basis to demonstrate genuine concern and care for residents. Demonstrate active listening skills when interacting with students. Model and promote an environment of respect and inclusion. Communicate in a professional manner with staff, residents, and campus partners. Qualifications

Background Investigation required, including a criminal background check, reference checks, and, if applicable, a credit check. Minimum education: High School graduate or equivalent. Baccalaureate degree preferred. Knowledge, skills, abilities: Interact with residents, model respect and inclusion, demonstrate active listening. Physical demands: Ability to lift 25 pounds; stand, sit, walk; driving required; direct interaction or care of children under 18. Position is of trust, has access or control of financial resources, and requires operation of facility and equipment. EEO Statement
