Job Description AECOM’s Chicago Buildings + Places team is seeking a talented and motivated
Junior
Interior Designer
to support the design and execution of interior design projects across multiple typologies. This role is strongly design-focused, requiring a high level of creativity, technical proficiency, and organizational rigor. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently on assigned tasks while also contributing effectively within collaborative, multidisciplinary teams. This role is a hybrid position located in Chicago, IL.
What You’ll Do
Contribute meaningfully to programming & visioning, concept design, space planning, and design development across a range of project types.
Research and source materials, finishes, and furnishings that align with the design vision and project budget.
Assist in developing design narratives, mood boards, material palettes, FF&E selections, and finish concepts.
Produce high-quality design drawings, diagrams, and presentation materials that clearly communicate design intent.
Support senior team members during client presentations and design reviews.
Prepare and maintain detailed design drawings, specifications, and construction documents using software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
Review and revise design documentation to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
Participate in quality control and drawing coordination reviews.
Stay current on design trends, innovations, and best practices, sharing insights with teams and clients.
To be successful in this position you must be proficient in design software such as AutoCAD,
Revit , SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, Powerpoint, and rendering tools like V‑Ray or Enscape.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in architecture or interior design + minimum 2 years of relevant experienceor demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications
4+ years of experience in commercial interiors.
Professional licensure in field of study.
Experience across a range of project sizes and typologies
High attention to detail with a strong sense of design craft.
Self‑motivated, proactive, and accountable.
General Understanding of building codes, regulations, and construction processes.
Strong communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
Comfortable balancing creativity with technical and practical constraints.
LEED Accreditation.
Valid driver’s license.
