The Science Writer I is part of the Analytics and Data Insights team, responsible for writing, editing, and coordinating the production of publications, posters, and presentations for CareQuest Institute for Oral Health. The role works closely with other teams and functional areas to identify content for development of further deliverables.

Primary Job Responsibilities

Help plan, develop, and implement science and policy writing activities that elevate oral health, showcase CareQuest Institute’s programs and grant‑making, and position the organization as a leading voice.

Write, review, and edit self‑published research reports, scholarly manuscripts for medical/dental journals, presentations, and other stakeholder‑facing materials.

Assist the team in planning and executing research, analysis, and data insights.

Ensure all deliverables are created in accordance with CareQuest Institute’s Style Guide.

Assist with strategic literature searches on databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, and others; manage EndNote databases; conduct scoping reviews or systematic reviews as appropriate.

Collaborate with the Science Writer II to provide strategic communications, consulting and partnership with CareQuest Institute leaders to build plans supporting their initiatives.

Collaborate with the Marketing team to ensure alignment with branding guidelines.

Collaborate with the Policy and Advocacy team in drafting and reviewing policy‑related deliverables.

Help review and analyze data to measure effectiveness, impact, and engagement of scientific writing programs.

Help develop and maintain a strategic awareness of the competitive landscape and conversations in the research focus areas.

Provide strategic counsel regarding current science writing platforms and recommend new practices.

Other duties as needed.

Job Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a relevant scientific or communications discipline (or related field) or equivalent work experience.

Experience in science writing, journalism, or communications.

A portfolio of written material and other digital and/or multimedia content.

Ability to work with highly technical information and communicate clearly, accurately, and with attention to detail.

Ability to interpret and present clinical data and other complex information.

Extensive knowledge of English grammar and familiarity with a standard style guide.

Well‑organized, superior written and oral communication skills with presentation skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Proficiency with general computer software including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Proven problem‑solving skills.

Ability to make sound judgments based on data available with supervision.

Ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks with tight deadlines.

Attends additional training as requested or deemed necessary.

Preferred

Experience in oral health research and publication.

Physical Demands

Ability to work in a traditional professional office setting or remote equivalent.

Ability to effectively operate computer equipment.

Work schedule may vary and is determined by project schedules.

Ability to travel as projects dictate.

Ability to efficiently operate all job‑related office equipment.

Ability to communicate via telephone and work in virtual teams.

Ability to work in a dynamic environment.

Benefits and Compensation
The target hiring range for this role is $87,000 – $102,400 annually. The starting base salary will be determined based on skills, experience, and other job‑related factors. The total rewards package includes medical, dental, and vision plans; generous time off including PTO; short‑ and long‑term disability insurance; and a competitive 401(k) savings match including financial planning workshops.
