Position Overview Rossville Consolidated School District is seeking a passionate, student-centered, and highly motivated Middle/High School Band Director to lead and grow a comprehensive band program serving grades 6–12. We are specifically seeking a driven individual eager to build and strengthen the program, inspire students at all levels, and foster a culture of pride, engagement, and musical excellence.
The Band Director will be responsible for developing and directing a dynamic instrumental music program that includes middle school and high school band ensembles. This position requires a visionary leader committed to increasing student participation, fostering enthusiasm for music, and creating meaningful experiences for all students, regardless of skill level.
Responsibilities
Actively recruit, retain, and inspire students, with a focus on building and sustaining a strong, growing program
Plan and deliver high-quality instruction in instrumental music for students in grades 6–12
Direct concert bands, pep band, and other ensembles as appropriate (Rossville Does Not have a Marching Band Program)
Prepare students for concerts, performances, and ISSMA events
Develop and implement a sequential, standards-based curriculum aligned with Indiana Academic Standards for Music
Organize and oversee performances, trips, and special events
Maintain accurate inventory and care of instruments, uniforms, and music library
Collaborate with school staff, administration, and community stakeholders to support student success
Communicate effectively with students, families, and staff
Foster a positive, inclusive environment that encourages participation from all students
Qualifications
Valid Indiana teaching license in Music Education (Instrumental preferred)
Strong background in instrumental music pedagogy and conducting
Experience working with middle and/or high school students preferred
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and motivate students
Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience building or revitalizing a band program
Ability to engage students of varying ability levels and backgrounds
Familiarity with marching band, jazz band, or other extracurricular ensembles (if applicable)
