Network Cybersecurity Specialist
Location:
East Hartford, CT (Hybrid - Onsite 2-3 days/week)

Cisco networking, Palo Alto firewalls, NIST/CJIS compliance, risk management, vulnerability assessment, incident response, and cybersecurity framework implementation.
Job Overview:
Network Cybersecurity Specialist
to support a leading IT services organization serving commercial and federal clients. The specialist will play a critical role in securing network infrastructure, ensuring compliance with
state, federal, and industry cybersecurity standards
including
NIST
and
CJIS . This position requires strong hands-on experience in
Cisco networking
and
Palo Alto firewalls , along with a solid understanding of
risk management
and
cybersecurity frameworks .
Key Responsibilities:
Perform
CJIS
and
IRS Risk and Control Assessments .
Conduct
network vulnerability assessments , including penetration and wireless testing.
Analyze vulnerabilities in
custom web applications
and recommend remediation steps.
Provide
incident response
and
malware analysis
support for critical security incidents (e.g., SolarWinds breach).
Develop and implement strategies around
Zero Trust
and
least privilege
principles.
Design
proofs of concept
for vulnerability management using
Tenable products .
Build and manage
log ingestion, threat intelligence , and
reporting systems .
Conduct
threat hunting
activities and deploy
honeypots/tripwires
for proactive detection.
Lead
tabletop incident response exercises
and develop
SharePoint-based cybersecurity documentation systems .
Deliver
digital forensics
and provide program development guidance.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
U.S. Citizenship
is mandatory.
5+ years
of experience in cybersecurity, with at least
2 years in compliance and risk management .
Strong knowledge of
NIST, CJIS, and CIS Controls
frameworks.
Hands-on expertise in
Cisco networking
and
Palo Alto firewall configuration .
Proven experience ensuring
compliance across multi-site Cisco-based environments .
Understanding of
government or judicial branch IT compliance
requirements.
Strong communication, documentation, and
audit preparation
skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certifications such as
CISSP, CISM, CISA, CompTIA Security+ , or equivalent.
Experience supporting
public sector or law enforcement
cybersecurity programs.
Knowledge of
data protection and privacy regulations
affecting government agencies.
Bachelor's degree
in Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related field.
