Associate Rare Plant Botanist, California Native Plant Society
American Society of Plant Taxonomists, San Angelo, TX, United States
We're excited to share a new opportunity to join CNPS as part of our Rare Plant Program. We’re hiring an
Associate Rare Plant Botanist
to support the science that protects California’s rare, threatened, and endangered plants.
This role is ideal for someone who loves digging into scientific literature, synthesizing complex botanical data, and translating research into real-world conservation impact. Working closely with CNPS scientific staff, chapter volunteers, and external experts, the Associate Rare Plant Botanist will help develop status review documents that directly inform the CNPS Rare Plant Inventory - one of the most widely used rare plant conservation resources in California.
The successful candidate is detail‑oriented, analytically minded, and mission‑driven, with a strong foundation in botany and California flora. This work directly supports CNPS’s Saving What Matters Most biodiversity campaign and contributes to conservation planning, land management, and protection efforts statewide.
