Overview
Cherokee Country Club in Knoxville, Tennessee is seeking a motivated PGA or LPGA Professional to join the professional staff. Cherokee is one of the premier clubs in the Southeast and has been a stalwart on the national golfing landscape since the clubs inception in 1907. The course was designed by Donald Ross and has played host to legends of the game since the clubs inception. Bobby Jones, Sam Snead, Gene Sarazan, Ted, Ray, and Harry Vardon have all graced the fairways of Cherokee. The Club has hosted the State Amateur 9 times, including the 2022 playing. In addition to the Clubs wonderful Donald Ross designed course, the Club offers exception dining, fitness, pickleball, tennis and pool amenities. The Club has a full membership with an extensive waiting list, and plays host to 22,000 rounds annually.
The ideal candidate must possess strong organizational and communcation skills. Candidates should expect to be actively seeking their own Head Golf Professional opportunity within 3-5 years. This position will expose the candidate to every skill set required of a golf professional.
The candidate should have a passion for teaching and playing the game of golf. The Club has an indoor teaching studio to allow for year round instruction. Professionals will have access to the Clubs two Trackman units, as well as their recently purchased SAM Putt Lab. The Club is in the early phases of developing plans for a state of the art learning center and short course.
This is a wonderful opportunity for someone possessing a passion for the game of golf and a desire to provide the highest level of service to the discerning members who call Cherokee home. The current Director of Golf has placed 7 former Assistants into Head Golf Professional and Director of Instruction roles.
Experience Required The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 1 year experience in the private club setting but candidates new to the industry will also be considered. A college degree is preferred but exceptional candidates from all backgrounds will be considered.
Essential Responsibilities
A visible ambassador and engaging personality that seeks opportunities to interface with members and guests
Assist with the organization and execusion of all Ladies Golf Association activities.
Work in unison with fellow professionals to assist in all tournament programming.
Provide instruction to members in both the private and group setting
Work in conjunction with the Director of Player development to oversee all junior and beginning golf programs
Assist Director of Retail with merchandising the professional shop
Execute the day to day operation of an active tee sheet and daily member and guest play
Play golf with members of all skill sets
Work in unison with the Director of Golf and fellow Assistant Professionals to oversee daily men's, ladies, and junior games
Perform club repair duties
PRO mote the game of golf to all Cherokee members, regardless of age, gender, or skill set
