Director of Tax Operations

Navan is revolutionizing global travel and expense management. We are seeking a highly motivated Director of Tax Operations to join our growing Tax team. The Director of Tax Operations will report to the VP of Tax. In addition, lead all aspects of income tax provision and compliance while building the processes and controls needed to support a growing, global public company. This role combines technical depth with operational rigor - owning ASC 740 provision, overseeing compliance, and partnering cross‑functionally to drive accuracy, readiness, and scale.

The successful candidate will be able to manage complex workflows and navigate effectively through uncertainty while prioritizing business needs. The ideal candidate should be able to work and adapt in a fast‑paced environment, perform their duties timely and accurately, think strategically, leverage AI where applicable, and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders and work with teams in multiple time‑zones. This role will be highly visible to the overall finance leadership team and will participate in strategic financial planning, providing insights on tax implications of potential business opportunities.

What You’ll Do

Manage the quarterly and annual worldwide consolidated tax provision and related financial statement disclosures in accordance with ASC 740

Manage the worldwide tax compliance process in collaboration with outside providers

Lead and mentor a team of tax professionals in various jurisdictions, providing guidance and fostering their professional development

Prepare federal, state, and international income tax analyses – some items include the R&D credit, stock based compensation, return‑to‑provisions, and fixed asset depreciation

Build out internal controls and maintain documentation and appropriate processes

Assist with tax planning projects, including modeling and forecasting of tax impacts

Drive tax process improvements, technological enhancements, and evolution of the tax reporting function

Monitor legislative, administrative, and judicial developments and quantify tax impacts

Research and memorialize tax technical issues and positions and ensure proper documentation

Assist with ad‑hoc tax organizational responsibilities, including the tax impacts on mobility, payroll, customer contracts, cross‑border transactions, and tax controversy

Work closely with third‑party consultants and auditors to ensure all income tax requirements are achieved both timely and accurately

What We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s degree in accounting (CPA a plus)

15+ years tax reporting and compliance experience with 4+ years of public accounting experience in ASC 740 or equivalent in‑house experience

Proactive and resourceful team player with positive attitude and energy in a fast‑paced and changing environment

Hands‑on experience in the calculation of quarterly and annual tax provisions with a working knowledge of ASC740 and international tax matters

Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to prioritize and manage a demanding workload involving multiple tasks, responsibilities, and tight deadlines

Excellent communication (verbal and written)

Excellent use of Excel, Google Suite, and hands‑on exposure to Netsuite accounting systems

A willingness and readiness to step out of your areas of expertise to learn, grow, and contribute

The posted pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the compensation for this position and is subject to change based on business need. To determine a successful candidate’s starting pay, we carefully consider a variety of factors, including primary work location, an evaluation of the candidate’s skills and experience, market demands, and internal parity.

Pay Range $151,275 – $336,300 USD
