Position Title: Well Superintendent
Department: Operations
Location: DJ Basin, Colorado (Office and Field)
Reports to: Vice President Field Operations
Salary Range: $215,000 – $245,000
Job Summary The Wells Superintendent is responsible for planning, executing, and optimizing well completions and workover operations across assets in the DJ Basin. This role ensures safe, efficient, and cost-effective execution of hydraulic fracturing, drillout, and well intervention activities. The Superintendent works closely with drilling, production, engineering, and service providers to deliver high-quality wells and maximize asset performance. This role works closely with field operations, maintenance, and HSE personnel to ensure safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible field operations while meeting all applicable Colorado and federal regulatory requirements.
Essential Functions
Lead and supervise all completions and workover operations, including hydraulic fracturing, drill-outs, flowback, and well servicing
Ensure operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory and company HSE standards
Drive efficiencies and manage logistics to minimize spud to first oil
Coordinate daily field activities with contractors, vendors, and internal teams
Develop and execute completion and workover programs in collaboration with engineering teams
Monitor job performance, costs, and timelines; implement improvements to optimize efficiency and reduce NPT (non-productive time)
Oversee well intervention activities such as recompletions, artificial lift changes, and remedial work
Manage service company performance, contracts, and field logistics
Track and report operational metrics, including cost per stage, cycle times, and production results
Ensure accurate reporting, job documentation, and data capture
Support incident investigations and drive corrective actions
Mentor and develop field supervisors and operations personnel
Provide day-to-day support to all completion and workover operations
Maintain strong collaboration with field operators, foremen, maintenance technicians, and inspectors to improve facility performance and operational efficiency
Ensure full compliance with Colorado regulations, including ECMC, CDPHE, and OSHA
Skills and Knowledge
Strong leadership and crew management capabilities
Excellent operational planning and execution skills
Ability to troubleshoot complex well and equipment issues
Strong cost control and budget management skills
Effective communication and coordination across teams and contractors
Commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and operational excellence
Data-driven mindset with focus on continuous improvement
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
8–15+ years of oil & gas experience, with significant focus on completions and/or workover operations
3–5+ years of supervisory or leadership experienceStrong experience in unconventional shale operations, particularly horizontal well completions
Hands-on experience with well control, pressure pumping, snubbing, and coil tubing operations
Knowledge of artificial lift systems and well intervention techniques
Familiarity with DJ Basin geology and operating practices preferred
Working knowledge of regulatory requirements, including ECMC
Valid driver’s license and ability to travel frequently within the field
Work Environment
Field-based position with significant time on location
Exposure to outdoor environments and varying weather conditions
Rotational schedule and on-call availability may be required
Travel throughout the DJ Basin
