Deputy Director, Division of Revenue & Rates
Salary:
$140,000 - $145,000
Workweek:
35 hours (no limit)
General Description Under the supervision of the Director, the Deputy Director assists in managing the Division of Revenue & Rates, overseeing administrative matters related to reviewing and rating employees, coordinating activities in the absence of the Director, and tracking work assignments.
Responsibilities
Assist the Director in managing day-to-day operations of the Division.
Coordinate and manage all rate and regulatory filings, including base rate cases, annual adjustment petitions, engineering matters, and acquisition/merger petitions.
Create, manage, and lead cross-functional teams as appropriate to address rate cases, special projects, and petitions.
Supervise Division staff, approving biweekly timesheets, preparing employee performance evaluations (PARS), and handling disciplinary matters.
Review administrative rules and proposed revisions, providing timely responses and comments.
Prepare presentations and brief the Executive Director and BPU Commissioners for agenda meetings.
Provide substantive technical and policy input on regulatory matters, including state and regional policy statements, plans, and reports.
Participate in a cross-functional BPU team to monitor regional and federal proceedings affecting New Jersey.
Participate and intervene in regional and federal proceedings when appropriate.
Monitor emerging trends in utility regulation through participation in industry and regulatory groups.
Work closely with the Attorney General’s Office in cases before the Office of Administrative Law.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. An advanced degree is preferred.
Experience:
Minimum five (5) years supervising managers and analysts in a regulatory environment.
Experience in the regulated utility industry, familiar with utility regulatory policies, standards, and procedures.
Demonstrated managerial skills: interpersonal, decision-making, problem analysis, creative thinking, administrative acuity, delegation, interdepartmental cooperation, development of subordinates, organizational awareness and discretion.
Good communication and leadership skills.
