Director, Product Management - Vehicle Commerce
General Motors, warren, mi, United States
Position Overview
The Director of Product Management, Vehicle Commerce is part of the Customer Experience Platforms (CXP) Product group and is accountable for the platforms and experiences that help prospective GM buyers discover, configure, visualize, and move toward purchase across GM brand sites and retail platforms globally.
You will lead the portfolio across Vehicle Data & Visualization, Vehicle Sales Platforms, Sales Lead Management, and cross-product integration—the pre-checkout shopping stack behind GM’s vehicle commerce strategy.
You are a seasoned people leader and technical product executive who translates complex customer needs and global objectives into clear platform strategy, aligns a diverse stakeholder set, and makes high-judgment tradeoffs in ambiguous multi-market environments.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Vision
- Product Roadmap & Global Platform Strategy: Own a multi-year, product-led roadmap based on “build once, deploy everywhere,” enables regional go-to-market needs via reusable capabilities— not bespoke builds.
- Vehicle Shopping Experience Vision: Set the end-to-end vision for discovery, configuration, visualization, and lead creation—from first visit to qualified sales lead. Ensure vehicle data, imagery, configuration tools, and flows work coherently across brands and global markets.
- AI-Led Shopping Innovation: Define how AI will transform shopping (conversational discovery, guided selling, intent-driven configuration, intelligent lead scoring) and execute in a disciplined, platform-first way aligned to GM’s data ecosystem.
Product Management Excellence
Execution & Operating Model: Establish clear processes for intake, prioritization, and review. Empower cross-functional teams to collaborate and deliver value, especially during multi-workstream vehicle launches.
- End-to-End Funnel Ownership: Own critical journeys from awareness through configuration, visualization, and lead submission. Create clear accountability for shopping outcomes.
- Measurement & Governance: Define and maintain KPIs for the portfolio. Partner cross-functionally on shared outcome frameworks and governance.
Platform & Technology Strategy
- Global Vehicle Shopping Platform: Define the end-to-end pre-checkout experience with clear ownership and simple integration so markets can launch reliably at scale. Own the strategy to sunset legacy regional configurators.
- Vehicle Visualization Platform: Drive the roadmap from MVP to 3D configurator integration, automated 2D-to-3D conversion, AI-generated backgrounds, and emerging AR/VR use cases, while strengthening the asset pipeline.
- AI & Automation for Vehicle Commerce: Prioritize AI/ML that improves funnel outcomes and partner with data/engineering on the contracts and infrastructure required to scale.
Team & Cross-Functional Leadership
- Comfort with Ambiguity: Makes pragmatic, high-judgment decisions amid multi-stakeholder complexity, legacy constraints, and evolving regional needs.
- Talent Development & Culture: Build and retain a high-performing product team with platform depth, cross-regional empathy, and growing AI fluency. Foster accountability, learning, and continuous improvement.
- Customer and Operator Empathy: Balances buyer, marketing, sales ops, regional, and dealer needs; designs experiences and tools that reduce friction for all.
