Mechanical Conveyor Designer / Drafter
The Mechanical Conveyor Designer / Drafter supports the design and layout of conveyor systems and material handling equipment used in industrial and manufacturing environments. This role suits candidates with an associate degree in drafting, mechanical technology, engineering technology, or a related field who have hands‑on experience using 2D AutoCAD and want to grow their mechanical design skillset. You will work closely with engineers, project managers, and senior designers to develop accurate drawings, layouts, and technical documentation for conveyor and material handling projects. Responsibilities
Create and modify 2D AutoCAD drawings for conveyor systems, components, and layouts. Assist with conveyor system layouts, including belt, roller, chain, and overhead conveyor systems. Develop detailed drawings for general arrangements, equipment layouts, mounting details, and assemblies. Interpret basic engineering sketches, specifications, and customer requirements to produce accurate designs. Update drawings based on redlines, field feedback, and engineering input while maintaining accuracy, organization, and revision control. Assist with basic material take-offs and creation of bills of material (BOMs) for projects. Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams throughout the project lifecycle to ensure designs meet project requirements. Follow established drafting standards and project procedures to maintain consistency and quality across all documentation. Essential Skills
Associate degree in drafting and design, mechanical technology, engineering technology, or a related technical discipline. Basic to intermediate experience using 2D AutoCAD for mechanical drawings and layouts. Ability to read and understand mechanical drawings and layouts. Basic understanding of mechanical components such as shafts, bearings, motors, and frames. Strong attention to detail with a focus on drawing accuracy and organization. Willingness to learn and expand mechanical design skills. Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications
Hands‑on drafting or mechanical design experience in an industrial or manufacturing setting. Experience supporting conveyor or material handling projects. Familiarity with revision control practices and documentation standards. Ability to incorporate field feedback and client requirements into design updates. Work Environment
This position is based in an engineering office environment, where you will work with engineers, project managers, and senior designers using AutoCAD and standard office tools. Approximately 30% of the time, you will visit client plants to take measurements, gather field information, and participate in review meetings on-site in industrial and manufacturing settings. The role involves a mix of desk‑based design work and on‑site collaboration to ensure that conveyor systems and material handling solutions are accurately designed and implemented. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Saint Louis, MO. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
