Job Overview The Digital Specialist is responsible for enhancing Research and Economic Development’s digital presence through strategic web development, content management, and digital engagement initiatives. The role focuses on the Drupal Content Management System, advancing a user‑centered, accessible, and high‑performing web presence that supports research visibility, innovation initiatives, and stakeholder engagement. All digital touchpoints are aligned with institutional branding and communication goals.

Responsibilities

Design, develop, and maintain complex web properties within the Drupal CMS, including content architecture, navigation, and user experience optimization.

Build and style responsive web pages using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, supporting Drupal theming and module configuration.

Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into effective web solutions, including new site sections, landing pages, and feature integrations.

Ensure all web content meets accessibility standards (WCAG), SEO best practices, and performance benchmarks.

Manage social media content across all platforms: create and maintain a social media calendar, design graphics, videos, and posts, and engage with followers.

Provide support for event creation, execution, and promotion; capture photos and videos during events and collaborate on post‑event content.

Consult with clients on digital communication projects, developing and recommending web content, site architecture, and visual material.

Ensure technical accuracy of web content and stay current with emerging web technologies and accessibility issues.

Provide general marketing support, ensuring all materials adhere to UCR brand standards and conducting light market research for growth opportunities.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training.

4–7 years of related experience.

Proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, and PHP.

Expertise with Drupal CMS, including content types, views, taxonomy, and module configuration.

In‑depth knowledge of design fundamentals, user experience, information architecture, and web communication best practices.

Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to develop and implement original ideas.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.) and social media strategy.

Proficiency with Canva and Adobe Creative Suite.

Knowledge of accessibility (WCAG 2.1 / ADA), SEO best practices, and site performance optimization.

Experience with responsive and mobile‑first design and information architecture.
