About the Position The Office of Student Outreach provides comprehensive services to prospective students, current students, staff, faculty, and members of the community-at-large seeking University information or services concerning outreach, pre-admission advising, transfer credit evaluation and financial aid.
This position conducts a full range of enrollment services activities. Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Outreach, this position specializes in generating, cultivating, advising, converting, and yielding prospective students within a defined market territory as well as supporting efforts to meet the University's overall new student enrollment goals.
Responsibilities Responsibilities include (but are not confined to) the following:
Conduct on- and off-campus pre-admission advising appointments regionally and out-of-area as needed.
Participate in on- and off-campus events.
Conduct advising and promotional visits to high schools and community colleges with corresponding reports of prospect generation and conversion from prospect to applicant, acceptance, and enrollment from said schools.
Represent all University programs (both academic and co-curricular) through presentations and workshops; track student interactions; represent the University at college fairs/evening programs; conduct informational presentations on CSUEB, the CSU system, admissions, and financial aid; provide follow-up written, electronic and telephone communication to prospective students; build and sustain positive relationships with prospective students, their families, and high school & community college specialists.
Track student interactions and maintain accurate records.
Support outreach and recruitment services, including recruitment travel to high schools and community colleges statewide, college fairs, and professional organizations.
Input information into Salesforce and review lists for proactive outreach.
Develop and sustain relationships with high schools and community colleges; conduct ongoing communication (direct mail, electronic, telephone).
Occasional visits to Southern California territories.
Provide accurate, ethical, and up-to-date pre-admission and initial financial aid advising.
Exhibit cultural competency and sensitivity to diverse economic backgrounds.
Communicate CSUEB marketing messages and craft communications following the University’s communication style guide. Maintain familiarity with CSUEB marketing messages and communication plans.
Reference CSUEB and CSU policies & procedures.
Advise students and family members on admission requirements and eligibility, CSUEB’s impaction, and general financial aid.
Provide institutions with needed information and follow through on requests.
Serve as liaison between prospective students and admissions/financial aid personnel.
Assist with Welcome Center duties when needed.
Provide virtual counseling at various points in the enrollment funnel.
Crostrain with fulfillment center duties as backup.
Respond to electronic and telephone inquiries within 24 hours.
Assist with transcript evaluation services.
Provide information to prospective and current students to meet admission requirements.
Deliver overviews of enrollment and financial aid processes.
Serve as back-up for fulfillment center coordinator.
Participate in cross-training and comprehensive efforts within Enrollment Management.
Assist in development of work teams and special projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Equivalent of one (1) year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level.
Equivalent amounts of graduate-level job-related education may be substituted for the required experience.
Graduation from a four-year college or university in behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a related field.
Additional specialized experience may be substituted for required education at a year-for-year basis.
Working knowledge of organization and program management, research and interviewing techniques, principles of individual and group behavior, and knowledge of basic principles of the Student Services field.
Ability to acquire working knowledge of campus objectives and apply program rules and regulations.
Ability to analyze data, reason logically, and make recommendations.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, and agencies.
Preferred Skills and Knowledge
Bilingual in Spanish (preferred). Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university.
At least one year of experience in a college/university setting in outreach and recruiting.
Experience presenting to large groups and providing information on admissions, financial aid, CSUEB, and the CSU.
Quickly develop comprehensive knowledge of CSUEB enrollment requirements and financial aid processes.
Promote constructive dialogue and act as a sympathetic listener.
Professional communication with prospective students, families, specialists, and colleagues.
Work with diverse populations.
Identify and analyze organizational problems and implement responses.
Strong organizational skills and ability to plan, coordinate, and implement actions.
Independent work capability.
Proficiency with administrative database systems, instant messaging, degree audit software, document imaging, and MS Office.
Acceptance of a flexible work schedule, including evenings and weekends.
Willingness to travel via car across California.
Experience with CRM and social media platforms (preferred).
Condition(s) of Employment Satisfactory completion of a background check (including LiveScan, as appropriate) is required for employment.
