
Global Employer Services-Expatriate Tax Senior Manager

Job Summary
The GES Sr Mgr - Expat is responsible for advising clients on the international assignment structuring, presentation of researched conclusions and recommendations of alternative courses of action, and identifying various methods of complying with tax obligations in addition to reviewing and signing expatriate US individual income tax returns. The GES Sr Mgr - Expat is also charged with marketing, networking and business development efforts within the industry and the Expatriate Services specialization. Managing staff assignments, financial status and worldwide coordination of assigned client engagements is also expected.
Job Duties
Conduct arrival and departure tax meetings for expatriates and inpatriates, as required
Manage retention of long-term client relationships
Supervise client and service delivery expectations of global employees of corporate clients and individual engagements
Participate in the management of client fee arrangements
Review and sign U.S. individual income tax returns for inbound and outbound international assignees
Examine and approve international assignment cost projection calculations, compensation balance sheets, assignment agreements and equalizations
Act as primary contact for assigned clients regarding communication and service management
Communicate with clients and team members in writing, via phone and in person to conclude and sign tax returns for individual assignees
Identify potential tax issues and evaluate and select alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance
Recognize and communicate potential risks, along with potential changes in tax policy and apply new policies to compliance
Conduct period client meetings
Understand, adhere to and ensure staff understanding of BDO Tax Quality Manual requirements
Manage resource allocation, workflow and utilization based on business need
Identify when research is necessary
Frame issues to be researched
Identify sources of reliable and relevant information
Analyze facts and authorities
Report the issues researched for various global tax and HR management matters, as appropriate
Identify issues and develop resolutions based on general knowledge and transfer resolutions into multiple tax specialties
Prepare correspondence on various global HR and individual tax issues
Lead Expatriate Services professionals on assigned projects, business development proposals, practice development challenges and client service matters, as needed
Attend community and industry networking functions, focusing on business development efforts
Assist in addressing routine questions from federal and state agencies, as needed
Attend professional development and training sessions regularly
Other duties as required
Supervisory Responsibilities
Direct and supervise the workload of Expatriate Services Associates and Senior Associates on assigned projects
Review work prepared by Expatriate Services Associates and Senior Associates and provide review comments, as needed
Act as a career advisor to Expatriate Services Associates and Senior Associates
Provide verbal and written performance feedback to Expatriate Services Associates and Senior Associates
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, International Business, Human Resource Management, International Human Resource Management or other related field required
Advanced degree in Accounting, Tax or MBA (concentration in International Business or HRM) preferred
Experience
More than eight years of related work experience required
Prior supervisory experience required
Prior study abroad or international work experience preferred
License/Certifications
Licensed CPA, attorney or enrolled agent preferred
American Payroll Association member beneficial
Society of Human Resource Management certification beneficial
Software
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, PowerPoint and Word
Prior experience with tax applications and research tools such as Go Systems preferred
Proficient with Adobe Reader and Writer to manipulate and organize PDF files
Language
Fluency in foreign languages highly desired
