
Graphic Designer

Primary Function
The Graphic Designer is responsible for creating and producing custom designs under the Barnes brand.
Job Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, with graphic design major, or equivalent, required
Minimum 3 years’ experience preferred, with graphic design as a primary responsibility
Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to design and communicate clearly for a variety of media and explain design concepts, options, and decisions to stakeholders
Capacity to learn quickly
Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple priorities in a variety of media under tight deadlines; ability to exercise good judgment and diplomacy in complex situations.
Must be self‑motivated and independent and able to work collaboratively with the Art Director, senior management, and internal staff clients
Knowledge of the following computer programs/software/skills required:
MAC platform
Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong typographic skills
Knowledge of the following computer programs/software is important:
In‑depth knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop required
Experience with Adobe After Effects and/or other animation software preferred
Experience with project management software (Basecamp, Trello, Dropbox, Google Drive) preferred
Knowledge and experience with print and video production process by external vendors is a plus
Demonstrated solid understanding of user‑centered design, testing, and implementation
Clearances Criminal Background - National
Essential Physical Activities
Approximately 80%+ of time is spent seated while working at a desk.
Ability to occasionally transport up to 25 lbs. of files, equipment or supplies. Ability to move to access files, equipment or supplies.
Vision Requirements
This position requires extended time on the computer.
Communication Requirements
Clearly communicate in person, by phone, and by video conference. Communicate with others in conversational and written English.
Working Conditions Position operates in a hybrid work setting comprised of the Barnes’ Philadelphia campus and remote work setting indicated by the employee at their documented home address. Position requires extended time on the computer.
Job Responsibilities
Designs, develops, and/or revises organizational marketing materials for internal clients, such as brochures, newsletters, advertisements, handouts, animations, donor presentations, logos, posters, invitations, web images, etc., for internal and external audiences and in consultation with the Art Director and other stakeholders.
Develops and designs graphic identities for exhibitions and special events, working with curators, exhibition designers, and internal stakeholders, maintaining ownership over projects in collaboration with Art Director.
Presents concepts and designs to internal clients including senior staff, incorporates feedback and moves projects forward.
Conceptualizes and animates motion projects for social media marketing campaigns and special events/ exhibitions.
Works with external contractors such as photographers and freelance designers to ensure quality results.
As a member of the Creative team, collaborates with colleagues on institutional photography and design needs.
Maintains involvement in institutional brand and developments within it, enforcing its use throughout the institution.
Maintains cultural awareness of the design landscape with respect to current and future trends.
Approaches design problems conceptually, with close attention to detail innovation and an ability to distill complex concepts and turn around mockups quickly.
Performs other duties as requested.
