Overview
Under the general direction from the Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Specialist – Enrichment acts as a liaison to the Department’s enrichment (after school) program and ensures the smooth operation of programming for preschool and elementary aged classes both on and off-site. The role includes the elementary-aged afterschool programs “Supervised Play” at Old Mill Elementary School and “Center of Play” at the Mill Valley Community Center. The Specialist supports other staff in the Youth and Teens Division for seasonal programs as needed.
Responsibilities
Facilitate recreation activities for ages Transitional Kindergarten through 5th grade.
Organize, implement, direct, supervise and/or promote specific programs and activities.
Process program payments promptly and thoroughly.
Plan enrichment classes for each season (Fall/Winter/Spring/Summer).
Assist in the preparation and administration of assigned program budgets.
Collaborate with local School District, PTAs, and community groups to develop, promote, and provide programs.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with schools, staff, parents, and children.
Monitor day‑to‑day operations, including site visits, complaint resolution, and ensuring required materials, staff, and supplies are available.
Participate in program evaluation, including customer satisfaction surveys and analysis of program effectiveness reports.
Enforce safety and operating procedures and manage maintenance needs to comply with health and safety codes.
Create and develop new programs as required.
Accurately maintain attendance records.
Perform related duties as required.
Lift up to 50 lbs.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university, majoring in early childhood education, recreation, or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience delivering kindergarten, elementary, and/or youth programming in a fast‑paced setting.
Strong customer service skills and meticulous attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in English.
Ability to work independently and build community relationships.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Pre‑Employment Conditions
Conditional job offers require a pre‑placement fingerprint review. Candidates must possess a current CPR/AED and First Aid certificate and be prepared to call 911 in an emergency.
