Senior Product Designer

Ashby, San Francisco, CA, United States

Company Overview Ashby is a growth‑stage startup building intelligent, powerful software for talent teams. With a strong customer base that includes Notion, Linear, Shopify, and Snowflake, we’re growing at over 100%% year‑over‑year and have a healthy runway, ARR and low churn.

Role Overview We’re looking for a versatile, intrinsically motivated designer who is excited to contribute to rethinking how modern software is designed. As part designer, part product manager, and part design system manager, you’ll work closely with engineers, product managers, and GTM teams to own large product features from concept through execution.

What You’ll Do

Consult with engineers on layout, typography, flows, and design patterns.

Dig into problems by engaging with customers, analyzing data, and proposing solutions based on heuristic and evidence.

Create high‑fidelity Figma prototypes and visual artifacts for stakeholder alignment.

Write specification documents that articulate design proposals and drive decisions.

Own large product features, applying Jobs‑To‑Be‑Done, navigation, IA, UI, interaction design, and more.

Incorporate customer feedback and build your own usability backlog.

Maintain and refine our design system to be functional, aesthetic, and best‑in‑class.

Your Qualifications

4+ years of product design experience in desktop SaaS.

Ability to think from first principles rather than standard UX processes.

Strong skill in layout, navigation, IA, UI, and interaction design.

Strong visual design skills and obsession with craft and detail.

Experience solving complex user problems through focused questioning.

Intuition that allows you to solve many usability problems with minimal data or research.

Curious and resourceful with a track record of creative solutions.

Bonus: experience at an early‑stage startup or solo designer experience.

Reasons to Apply

High leverage and impact beyond what you'd see in a typical enterprise product team.

Work across a massive product surface covering many user types, JTBDs, and usability challenges.

Opportunity to reinvent the design model for modern enterprise software.

Full ownership of the design process with focus on craft.

Help build our design system from the ground up.

Reasons Not to Apply

You’re uncomfortable designing independently without much guidance from a PM or design manager.

You prefer decisions and processes not to be constantly challenged by engineering and product.

You prefer an in‑person role while Ashby operates remotely.

You dislike written documentation.

You want a structured project rhythm.

You prefer a narrow scope—interaction design only or design system only.

Interview Process Our interview process is four rounds, with a casual Zoom coffee between each stage to help us get to know you.

30‑minute introduction call to discuss Ashby and your experience.

45‑minute portfolio review.

75‑minute design exercise and app teardown—a live whiteboard exercise where you show how you’d solve the prompt.

2.5‑hour final round—meet the team and repeat the portfolio review with a founder.

Benefits

Competitive salary and equity.

10‑year exercise window for stock options—no pressure to purchase immediately.

Unlimited PTO with a recommendation of four weeks per year.

Twelve weeks of fully paid family leave in the US.

Generous equipment, software, and office furniture budget.

$100 per month education budget, with larger items covered with manager approval.

Top‑notch health insurance for you and your dependents in the US, with all premiums covered by us.

Compensation Compensation range: $150K – $210K.
