Columbus North Auditorium Director

Position Function Under the general supervision of the high school principal or designee, manages and maintains the auditorium and oversees the technical elements of all events taking place in the auditorium.

Essential Functions

Train, supervise, and schedule a cadre of student technicians to assist with the technical aspects of events in the auditorium.

Manage and maintain all aspects of the auditorium, control booths, lighting coves, concessions, ticket office, dressing rooms, scene shop, and storage rooms.

Coordinate design elements of productions, including set design and construction, lighting, costumes, props, makeup, and sound.

Apply knowledge of professional standards of stage safety.

Schedule and coordinate all events in the auditorium (district events and external requests).

Schedule and supervise technical crews for events in the auditorium.

Inventory and maintain all equipment in the auditorium.

Manage all ticketing and box office operations; ensure staff is adequately trained and supervised to minimize risk of fraud.

Perform other tasks and assume responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

Sponsor the high school drama club and chapter of the International Thespian Society.

Organize, plan, and direct productions, responsible for all publicity, costumes and properties, lighting and sound design, set construction, securing ushers, managing ticket sales, developing rehearsal schedules, and any other duty necessary to the success of a production.

Equipment

Maintain a reliable system for providing technical support for all programs and events.

Oversee proper lighting and sound for auditorium events.

Use tools or equipment with expertise acquired through vocational experience and/or specialized training.

Operate specialized equipment including audio, video, and lighting consoles.

Maintain appropriate confidentiality.

Learn and utilize office equipment, computers, and software, especially as systems are upgraded.

Upgrade job skills to meet changing demands.

React well under pressure, handle multiple demands simultaneously, work with frequent interruptions, and perform duties at expected professionalism levels.

Possess extensive knowledge and ability to perform duties in full compliance with all district, Board of Education, state, and federal laws, methods, requirements, policies, procedures, and activities pertinent to the duties of this position.

Work independently with minimum supervision.

Use independent judgment and demonstrate initiative.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards Significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, frequent climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling; fine finger dexterity; lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally.

Qualifications Profile

BA preferred with background in technical theater.

Successful work experience in leadership skills, social work, community education, theater or community resources.

Knowledge and experience with counterweight systems, light boards, sound systems, and computers.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Attendance and punctuality are important; flexible hours, with Saturdays and Sundays and evening rehearsals up to 10 p.m.; rental performances may go until midnight.

Terms of Employment

20 hours per week; work hours flexible based on event schedule.

Part time, no benefits.

Grade 14 on Classified Staff Matrix.

Salary $21.24 to $25.49 hourly based on experience. Additional $1 per hour from referendum funds on the above rate only. Community rental events paid at $83.67 per hour.
